Responsibilities
JOB PURPOSE
The Manager, Business Development manages development activities for assigned renewable energy projects across North America. This role collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to drive project execution, manage budgets and schedules, identify and mitigate risks, and support the creation of new project development opportunities.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Execute and optimize assigned development projects in coordination with management, ensuring timely decisions, stakeholder alignment, and disciplined tracking of risks, schedules, budgets, and progress against plan.
  • Coordinate with permitting, land, origination, meteorology, engineering and construction, transmission, fundamentals, stakeholder engagement, legal, finance, accounting, operations, asset management, and other internal teams to maximize project opportunities.
  • Develop and manage project development budgets, monitor financial exposure, and support investment decisions through project analysis and financial model interpretation.
  • Support internal Board deliverables, budgeting processes, RELAY activities, and other project tracking and reporting processes.
  • Identify and support creation of valuable new project development opportunities in coordination with management.
  • Manage project work plans and recommend changes that may affect timing, budget, or scope within approved parameters, elevating material issues to management as appropriate.
  • Build collaborative relationships with multidisciplinary teams and project stakeholders to promote accountability, informed decision-making, and effective project execution.
  • May manage interns and/or junior development team members, including providing direction, coaching, and support on assigned work.

Qualifications
Educational Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, engineering, environmental studies, energy, or a related field required; equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.

Required Work Experience
  • 3-5 years of experience in the power industry with significant renewable energy project experience required.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas preferred: renewable energy development, project finance, asset management, permitting, land acquisition, interconnection, or pre-construction.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects across siting, land acquisition, permitting, interconnection, and pre-construction phases.
  • Experience working within local, state, and federal permitting frameworks, including environmental and zoning compliance.
  • Ability to interpret financial models, evaluate project viability, and support investment decisions.
  • Track record leading multidisciplinary teams, including engineering, environmental, legal, EPC, finance, operations, and other subject matter experts.
  • Strong project management, communication, stakeholder engagement, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Additional Requirements
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, make timely recommendations, and communicate risks and opportunities clearly to management.
  • Experience managing project development budgets, schedules, agreements, and cross-functional deliverables preferred.
  • People management or mentorship experience with interns, analysts, or junior development team members preferred.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as needed to support project development activities and stakeholder engagement.

The expected starting pay range for this role is $111,000 - $138,000 USD. This range is an estimate and base pay may be above or below the ranges based on several factors including but not limited to location, work experience, certifications, and education. In addition to base pay, Pattern's compensation program includes a bonus structure for full-time employees of all levels. We also provide a comprehensive benefits package which includes medical, dental, vision, short and long-term disability, life insurance, voluntary benefits, family care benefits, employee assistance program, paid time off and bonding leave, paid holidays, 401(k)/RRSP retirement savings plan with employer contribution, and employee referral bonuses.
