Job description

About the Role:
The Director of Creative Media reports directly to the Associate Athletics Director for External Operations and serves as the lead creative professional for Athletics and is responsible for developing and producing visual content that enhances the department's brand, supports recruiting efforts, engages fans and promotes the success of NKU student-athletes and programs.
Working closely with coaches, student-athletes, athletics administrators and external operations staff, the Director of Creative Media develops and executes content strategies across digital and social media platforms through photography, videography, graphic design and other multimedia storytelling. The position plays a key role in advancing departmental priorities related to fan engagement, recruiting, ticket sales, fundraising and brand awareness.
The Director of Creative Media provides creative leadership for athletics content production while also serving as a hands-on content creator. The position manages student workers and interns, establishes creative standards and helps ensure a consistent and recognizable visual identity for NKU Athletics.
Compliance with NCAA rules is of the utmost importance at Northern Kentucky University. As a member of the athletics department staff, it is expected that the Director of Creative Media will have a full understanding of the NCAA rules that pertain to the position. It is also expected that the Director of Creative Media will comply with all NCAA rules and if he/she becomes aware, or have reasonable cause to believe, that a violation of a rule has occurred he/she will immediately report it to the Director of Athletics or his/her designee.
  • Creative Content Development and Storytelling
    Lead the planning, creation and production of multimedia content that promotes NKU Athletics, supports recruiting efforts, enhances fan engagement and highlights the achievements of student-athletes, coaches and programs. Produce content for social media, digital platforms, athletics websites, recruiting materials, fundraising initiatives and special projects.

  • Photography, Videography and Graphic Design
    Serve as the department's primary visual content creator through photography, videography and graphic design. Capture athletics events, practices, community engagement activities and special events while producing creative assets that support departmental initiatives.

  • Content Strategy and Brand Management
    Develop content plans and creative strategies that align with departmental goals and maintain a consistent visual identity across athletics platforms. Collaborate with athletics leadership and external operations staff to identify storytelling opportunities and support strategic priorities.

  • Collaboration and Project Support
    Work closely with coaches, student-athletes, athletics communications, marketing, ticketing, development and corporate partnerships staff to create content that supports recruiting, fan engagement, sponsorship fulfillment and revenue-generating initiatives.

  • Student Staff Supervision and Creative Operations
    Recruit, train and supervise student employees and interns. Assist with content scheduling, asset organization, equipment management and workflow coordination to support departmental creative needs.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities
Demonstrated experience in photography, videography & graphic design. Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud, including Photoshop, Illustrator, Premier Pro & related applications. Strong visual storytelling, creative thinking and content development skills. Knowledge of social media content creation and digital communication platforms. Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Strong communication, collaboration and organizational skills.
  • Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Communications, Digital Media, Graphic Design, Marketing, Journalism, Photography, Video Production or a related field.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Experience working in NCAA athletics, supervising student employees or interns, experience with motion graphics, animation or advanced video production techniques and a portfolio demonstrating photography, videography and graphic design work.
  • Experience: Minimum of three years of professional experience in multimedia production, creative media, digital content creation, athletics communications, marketing or a related field.
  • Preferred experience in collegiate athletics, professional sports or a comparable environment.
