Job Description

Summary Provide care and maintenance for all animals by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Compassionate care is the top priority for all animals

  • Keeps kennels clean, orderly and free of odors

  • Ensures that kennel areas are clean, orderly and safe for animals

  • Feeds animals as scheduled and according to guidelines and make sure that have water at all times

  • Complies with specific feeding programs related to behavioral enrichment for specific animals

  • Ensures that animals have socialization daily

  • Exercises/socializes animals daily and abides by exercise program in place for each dog/cat

  • Documents necessary animal information for management or veterinary staff.

  • Ensures the comfort and cleanliness of all animals

  • Bathes or cleans animals immediately if they become soled with urine, blood, or feces.

  • Takes inventory of stock supplies as needed

  • Cleans laundry as needed

  • Advises Supervisor of any conditions that are unsafe including unrecognized hazards or infractions of safety rules.

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in animal science preferred but not required.

  • Two or more years animal care experience in a veterinary environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Ability to treat animals with care and respect and feel comfortable socializing animals off leash

  • Ability to assess animal heather conditions and to obtain blood samples and urine samples when needed

  • Ability to work independently as well as be a team player

  • Ability to follow instructions and respond to management direction

  • Ability to write legibly and read documents
