Job description

Senior Creative Director

Location: Austin, TX or New York City (Hybrid)

About Us

We drive intelligent growth for ambitious businesses and leading brands.

Customer understanding is more potent and drives greater value when insights go to work directly within marketing and experience priorities. To give our clients that advantage, we put an insights-driven operating system at the core of our design, go-to-market and digital experience solutions.

Material clients make smarter growth choices because they can see clearly how and when to take the shots that count. Together, we connect consumer intelligence with customer demand generation to build lasting, profitable relationships.

The Opportunity

We're looking for a Senior Creative Director with a copywriting background who has passion for and expertise in all aspects of B2B marketing-from brand stories to the critical campaign tactics that boost client reputations while driving leads and sales.
This role sits at the intersection of creative leadership and business impact, helping shape the creative B2B practice, setting the standard for insight-led work and continuing to build the capabilities of a senior team that has been driving impact for a category-leading B2B brand. The Senior Creative Director translates strategy into creative systems, and creative output into measurable business results.

The perfect candidate will have the curiosity and skill to deeply learn a client's business, audiences, and markets and then extend that knowledge to develop campaigns across brand campaigns, content, performance marketing, social, video, CRM, and the smart application of AI.

Creative Directors at Material are idea people at heart who also have strategic minds to shape stories and campaigns to the needs of diverse clients and their audiences.

Candidates must have fluency in all channels and an understanding of the rising role of content across video, social, and as part of the growing role of search and AI search. This role will also support other Material B2B and B2B2C clients.

What Will You Do?

Creative Direction & Strategic Thinking

  • Translate strategies into strong concepts and campaigns across multiple channels

  • Lead client presentations and take an active role in client status meetings and planning

  • Use client and market insights to generate proactive "what-if" ideas for clients to consider

  • Build campaigns that resonate with audiences and drive business outcomes

  • Be part of the Creative and Design department leadership team

  • Orchestrate workshares to showcase your team's work and your team across the department and company

  • Take an active role in new business for brands that match your past experience

  • Together with ECD, set the creative standards and frameworks that continue to define the creative operating model for B2B work

Client & Team Leadership

  • Serve as a leading voice across your client team

  • Immerse yourself in our clients' businesses, audiences and industries at both creative and business levels

  • Direct your creative team to deliver outstanding work in context of project timelines and budgets

  • Lead client campaign presentations and direct work through production and optimization, anticipating risks to timelines, quality and outcomes and intervening before escalation

  • Collaborate with strategy, media, CRM, and analytics leads to use data to optimize campaign work

  • Lead and mentor your creating teams, shaping the work and their careers, establishing annual objectives using quarterly progress checks and informal 1:1s to discuss work, performance, and life

  • Take an active role with multidisciplinary teams to introduce and leverage AI to optimize our work, workflow and production keeping the human in the loop

  • Work with ECD to manage revenue, margin and utilization across your account portfolio by anticipating scope and budget risks and partnering with account leadership to protect profitability

Writing & Craft

  • Expertise in staying close to the work-shaping platforms for their teams to produce and stepping in to write in the right moments. These are traits of all Material CDs.

  • Proven experience in gaining an in-depth knowledge of client products, services, benefits, features, voice and style to shape campaigns and copy

  • Ability to lead client discussions when brand elements need to evolve to stay relevant with audience and markets

Growth & Business Impact

  • Drive portfolio growth by identifying and pursuing expansion opportunities within existing client relationships

  • Play a leading role in pitches, RFPs and new biz conversations for adjacent brands

  • Drive the conversation that makes the business case for the work, connecting creative to commercial outcomes and tying creative decisions to client growth, acquisition, and retention metrics

Who Are You?

A human with a curious mind and clear tastes with the ability to let teams explore then select the best path forward. You become a talent that clients find invaluable.

  • Creative leadership that drives measurable business impact, connecting concepts to outcomes, not just aesthetics

  • Ability to find the clear signal in complicated categories for clients and teams

  • Deep reader and trend spotter to bring new ideas and perspectives to clients before they ask for them

  • Connecting dots across industries and culture to expand client perspectives

  • Proven in developing original brand voices and enhancing brands to retain relevance

  • Thinks strategically, directs clearly, edits precisely

  • Collaborates and motivates creative, strategy, account, and client teams

  • Curious about human behavior and emerging technologies

  • Enterprise-minded: makes decisions that serve the long-term health of the practice and the company, not just the immediate engagement

  • Builds durable internal networks and partnerships; influences outcomes beyond a formal purview
