With clinics located across Fresno, Kings, and Tulare counties, our team works together to deliver accessible, high quality care to every patient.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Oral Health Screener (Medical Assistant) serves as an integral member of the integrated medical and dental care team by providing oral health screenings during medical visits. This position is responsible for identifying patients who may benefit from dental services, facilitating real time teledental consultations, completing oral health assessments, and coordinating follow-up dental care. The Oral Health Screener promotes preventive oral health services and helps improve access to dental care for MediCal patients through technology enabled care delivery.

In addition to oral health responsibilities, this role provides clinical support to the medical department as needed to ensure efficient patient flow and quality patient care.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Oral Health Screening Services

  • Conduct oral health screenings during scheduled medical appointments.
  • Obtain high quality intra oral images utilizing an intra oral camera.
  • Complete Caries Risk Assessments (CRA) in accordance with established clinical guidelines and protocols.
  • Review patient eligibility and identify patients appropriate for oral health screening services.
  • Educate patients on the importance of oral health and preventive dental care.
  • Document screening findings accurately in the Electronic Health Record (EHR)

Tele Dental Coordination

  • Facilitate real time tele dental visits using Otto Health or other approved telehealth platforms.
  • Prepare patients for virtual consultations with licensed dental providers.
  • Ensure all required patient information, images, and assessment findings are available for the dental provider prior to the tele dental consultation.
  • Support communication between patients and dental providers during virtual visits.

Scheduling and Care Coordination

  • Review and scrub medical provider schedules one day in advance to identify eligible patients with active MediCal coverage.
  • Proactively add qualified patients to the Oral Health Screener schedule.
  • Coordinate patient flow to ensure oral health screenings are completed efficiently during medical visits.
  • Schedule followup dental appointments with dental providers based on patient needs and requests.
  • Assist patients with understanding available dental services and appointment options.

Billing and Administrative Responsibilities

  • Enter and complete appropriate charges for oral health screening and tele dental services.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation to support billing and compliance requirements.
  • Monitor daily screening schedules and productivity metrics.
  • Assist with reporting requirements related to oral health screening programs.

Medical Assistant Support Duties

  • Assist medical providers and clinical staff with patient flow during downtime or as operational needs require.
  • Perform Certified Medical Assistant duties within scope of practice.
  • Support clinic operations by assisting with patient intake, rooming, vital signs, and other clinical tasks as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Medical Assistant certification.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience in a clinical or ambulatory healthcare setting preferred.
  • Experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems.
  • Strong computer and technology skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary healthcare team.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working with MediCal populations.
  • Experience in dental, oral health, telehealth, or community health programs.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
  • Familiarity with Otto Health or other telehealth platforms.
  • Knowledge of preventive oral health practices and caries risk assessment tools.
