Case Worker

Reports To: Child Placing Agency Program Director

Organization: Tejano Center

Division: Child Placing Agency

Location: 3103 McKinney St, Houston, TX 77003

FLSA Status: Exempt

Employment Status: Full-Time

Work Calendar Status: 12 Months (238 Days)

Position Summary

The Foster Program Case Worker provides case management and support services to children placed in foster care and the foster families who care for them. This position is responsible for ensuring the safety, well-being, and permanency of children by conducting assessments, coordinating services, monitoring placements, maintaining compliance with state licensing standards, and collaborating with Child Protective Services (CPS) and community partners.

Education and Experience

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work or a related human services field preferred.
  • Degree should include at least nine (9) semester hours in family and individual dynamics.

Experience:

  • Applicants with a non-human services degree must have two (2) years of full-time experience in a licensed child placing agency.
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience in a child placing agency under the supervision of a Child Placing Administrator.

Major Responsibilities and Duties

  • Manage a caseload of assigned foster children and families.
  • Complete assessments, case plans, admissions, and permanency planning.
  • Conduct monthly home visits with foster children and caregivers.
  • Monitor foster homes for compliance with agency and state requirements.
  • Coordinate services with CPS, community providers, and agency staff.
  • Provide guidance, support, and crisis intervention to foster families.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential case documentation.
  • Investigate and report incidents or policy violations.
  • Respond to after-hours emergencies as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Federal, State and local laws pertaining to student data reporting
  • Knowledge of TEA Student Attendance Accounting Handbook and PEIMS/TSDS Data Standards, TREX, Unique ID
  • Skill in computer applications and software (Microsoft Word, Excel, Student Information Systems) to develop or maintain spreadsheets, databases and perform word processing
  • Ability to present oral and written information in a comprehensive and organized manner in group or individual settings
  • Ability to communicate effectively and provide a high level of customer service to co-workers, staff and district personnel in resolving related issues
  • Ability to work independently and perform a variety of complex activities simultaneously
  • Ability to meet established deadlines
  • Ability to maintain accurate and auditable records
  • Ability to use personal computer, develop spreadsheets, databases, and perform word processing
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Team oriented and self-motivated
