Position Summary
This position will be located at Nueces Bay power station in Corpus Christi, Texas.
The Engineering Associate position holds the responsibility for the safe, reliable, and economic round-the-clock operation of the generation, electric transmission, and distribution systems. Duties include Engineering responsibilities for the design, construction, maintenance, and operation activities of our power plants, transmission lines, substations, distribution system, gas systems, control centers and others. These Engineering duties may include continuous monitoring and balancing of energy flow and responding to system disturbances, along with all generation, distribution, and transmission activities that provide electric and gas services to customers.

  • Attends seminars, continuing education opportunities for professional development
  • Focuses on operational/tactical aspects of the work
  • Recommends improvements to processes and procedures
  • Handles work content that is increasingly complex
  • Applies engineering skills that include evaluation and ingenuity
  • Makes some independent decisions and often makes recommendations that affect the section, department and/or division
  • Decisions have identifiable but relatively moderate impact on costs, timeline, safety and reliability
  • May provide input to area budget
  • Applies knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures
  • Performs other project and process improvement initiatives as assigned

Minimum Skills
Minimum Knowledge and Abilities
Approval by Business Unit Executive Leadership, as related to the business need for Engineering Associate 2's without their EIT.
Ability to effectively work as an individual contributor and contributing team member.
Ability to handle complex assignments with minimum supervision.
Ability to work in a team environment, coordinating with other related areas to complete tasks and projects.
Ability to research and solve problems.
Effective interpersonal skills and written communication skills.
Ability to build relationships with coworkers and customers.
Demonstrates proficiency in basic management of projects and assignments.
Ability to work call duty and occasional unscheduled work in the evenings, weekends, or holidays after experience level permits.
Ability to travel occasionally, to off-site work, to seminars, manufacturing plant inspections, etc.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Package, including word processing, spreadsheets, database, presentation software, electronic mail and scheduling.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Broad knowledge of other related areas and how they influence operational/tactical aspects
  • Experience with Computer Aided-Drafting systems and Bentley Microstation software
  • Experience with ESRI GIS software and Arc FM Designer software
  • Experience with SAP and Work Manager software

Working Environment
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. Operating computer, manual dexterity, talking, hearing, and repetitive motion. Use of personal computing equipment, telephone, multi-functioning printer and calculator.
Employee may potentially be exposed to hazardous chemicals, wet or humid conditions, outdoor weather, noisy and dusty environment.
Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions or other business events. After hours work may be required.
Physical Demands
Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
