Job Summary

The Clinical Informatics Specialist 2 leads in promoting healthcare information technology. This position supports clinician aims, the organization's vision, and industry best practices within the Transplant Service Line at Baylor Scott & White (BSWH). This position ensures optimal use of clinical information systems for patient care, safety, user satisfaction, productivity, and quality outcomes, and serves as a lead and expert bridging people, process, clinical knowledge, and technology.

Essential Functions of the Role

  • Develop an understanding of Transplant regulations, policies/processes and processes within BSWH.
  • Establish effective working relationships within BSWH Transplant, Informatics and Information Services (IS).
  • Develop working relationships within the Transplant Clinical teams and effectively partner with the Providers, Nurses and other clinicians, as well as Clinic leadership, to assist in problem solving, education and optimization as relates to their use of the Electronic Health Record.
  • Develop an understanding of impacts to workflow from enhancements, projects, and application upgrades.  May serve as the user-acceptance testing coordinator for new application enhancements and fixes.
  • Investigate, escalate, and develop recommendations for issue resolution.  Look for ways to add value beyond stakeholders' immediate requests and act on them.
  • Ability to prioritize work autonomously and align with project deliverables and timelines including providing input to aid decision-making and work prioritization.
  • Communicate updates and workflows to customers with minimal help, including development of education and communication tools to assist with implementation of complex workflow.
  • Self-assesses against standards for the current role to identify learning needs. Effectively transfers acquired knowledge and expertise. Solicits constant feedback for improvement. Continually acquires new knowledge to improve job performance.

Key Success Factors

  • Bachelor's or 4 years of additional work experience above the minimum work experience qualification (3 years)
  • Experience with Transplant is preferred; experience with other specialty outpatient areas is also acceptable
  • Must have one of the following certifications:
    • Epic Clinical Informatics Certification
    • ANCC Board Certified Clinical Informatics (RN-BC)
    • Certified Professional in Health Information & Management Systems (CPHIMS)
      • Licensed clinician such as nurse, physical therapist, occupational therapist, pharmacy technician, dietitian, respiratory therapist, speech pathologist, etc. preferred.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Sound understanding of clinical practice as it pertains to the integration of clinical information systems/technology and impact on end users.
  • Exceptional critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to manage multiple projects.
