Echocardiogram Technician (ECHO Tech)
Reporting to the Manager of Imaging, The Echocardiogram Technician provides diagnostic patient care services using ultrasound and related diagnostic procedures according to established policy and procedure. Uses independent judgment and systematic problem-solving methods to produce high quality diagnostic information and optimal patient care as well as other assigned duties assigned by the Imaging Manager. Performs all required ultrasound and clinical evaluations at a technical level not requiring direct supervision.
Key Responsibilities:
Essential Functions
  • Performs Adult Echocardiograms.
  • Efficient in operating ultrasound equipment and optimizing images to obtain the highest quality echocardiography images.
  • Assists the Imaging Manager with the daily operations of the ultrasound laboratory and training staff as needed.
  • Uses independent judgment and systematic problem-solving methods to produce high quality diagnostic information and optimal patient care as well as other assigned duties assigned by the Imaging and Lab Manager.
  • Keeps work area clean and stocked with necessary supplies. Assure the equipment is in good working order and notify Imaging Manager of any malfunctions.
  • Assures images and preliminary information (sonographer worksheets) are assigned to reading physicians in the PACS system as soon as possible, but no later than the end of the workday.
  • Assures diagnostic reports are received for echo/ultrasound studies in a timely manner.
  • Adheres to infection control guidelines.
  • Communicates effectively to patients and family members.
  • Always Maintains patient confidentiality; adheres to HIPAA guidelines.
  • Maintains current credentials (registry certifications) for Adult Echocardiography.
  • Maintains appropriate CME's that are required by appropriate accreditation bureaus.
  • Ensures smooth patient flow throughout the office by assisting in other areas when needed or as requested.
  • Promotes positive public relations to patients, visitors, families, physicians, and others. Exhibits characteristics consistent with CPC values for quality, respect, teamwork, and pride.
  • Physical appearance and conduct consistent with acceptable professional ethics and CPC standards.
  • Maintains operations by following policies and procedures, reporting needed changes and making suggestions for improvement.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements
Qualifications for Success:
Education, License/Certification, and Experience Requirements
Education: Graduate of Accredited Cardiovascular Sonography Program. Associate degree and/or Bachelor's Degree in Cardiovascular Sonography required.
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required:
ARDMS or CCI certified in Adult Cardiovascular Sonography required. Must be able to obtain CPR certification within 6 months.
Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience in a medical practice, hospital, or clinic setting. Prior experience performing Adult Echocardiograms.
โ€ข Knowledge of general health care practices, office workflows, and medical terminology.
โ€ข Knowledge of Ultrasound Equipment.
โ€ข Ability to identify emergent medical situations.
โ€ข Ability to effectively function in a fast-paced, time-sensitive work environment.
โ€ข Strong working medical knowledge of the clinical needs and disease processes for the chronically ill population.
โ€ข Excellent telephone, oral and written communication skills.
โ€ข Ability to work autonomously and be directly accountable for assignments.
โ€ข Strong computer skills, including Microsoft office and EMR experience.
โ€ข Capable of managing several tasks simultaneously.
