SUMMARY
Protects the Courthouse and Annex, officials, employees and patrons; enforces laws; and performs emergency response functions in county buildings.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
โ€ข Conducts searches of persons, outdoor areas, and buildings, for potential weapons and contraband prior to entering in the building.
โ€ข Foot patrols the County Courthouse and Annex with emphasis on security and assisting the occupants.
โ€ข Recommends security improvements to the sergeant.
โ€ข Operation of the x-ray, walk-through and the hand-wand security screening at the main entrance.
โ€ข Arrests violators and completes paperwork and necessary reports associated with arrests and offenses.
โ€ข Responds to county building emergency alarms, calls, and complaints.
โ€ข Deputy on call rotation for two weeks intervals.
โ€ข Investigates crimes against persons/ property.
โ€ข Assists federal, state, local law enforcement officials with emergencies, or response in the buildings.
โ€ข Provide extra security or bailiff in the courts when needed.
โ€ข Testifies in court as required
โ€ข Transports prisoners to and from court when needed.
โ€ข Guards the election office during Early Voting and Election Day.
โ€ข Monitor the bailiff and prisoner movement, prisoner holdover intercoms, and building surveillance cameras.
โ€ข Maintain mandated checks on inmates located in the Courthouse Security holdovers.
โ€ข Maintain current location of the inmates when in the courthouse.
โ€ข Maintain mandatory TCOLE hours and training.
โ€ข Perform special assignments when required.
โ€ข Assists other divisions, sections, courts, or personnel as needed or directed.
โ€ข Regular and timely attendance is required
โ€ข Enforces the constitution and laws of the United States and of the State of Texas
โ€ข Must possess the physical and/or mental abilities required to perform the essential functions of the job.
โ€ข Shall abide by all Midland County Polices and City, County Ordinances, State and Federal Laws.

Qualifications, Education, and/or experience
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Basic Peace Officer and Jailer certification plus at least one year of experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Basic Peace Officer and Jailer certification from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE).
Knowledge, Skills and/or ability
Penal Code and Jail Standards; investigation; x-ray screening and metal detection; security protocols and operations.
Safely operate vehicles, firearms, and specialized security equipment; physically restrain individuals; read and write reports, letters, and memos; operate a computer and/or typewriter; apply criminal investigative techniques; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other law enforcement agencies, the elected officials', Office heads, other Official employees, and the general public; demonstrate proficiency in both oral and written communication; maintain accurate records; and maintain appropriate necessary certifications, Texas driver's license applicable to job responsibilities, and good driving record.
