Job description

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Part-Time Security Officer will perform duties related to the enforcement of security regulations and procedures to protect KSRE personnel, customers, visitors, information, property and other assets. Must be proficient in the operation of security, safety, and emergency monitoring devices. Must be willing to work additional hours as needed in an emergency or personnel shortage. This security position is a part-time role. When not available to work for any reason, prior notice must be provided as soon as possible.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Patrolling: Regularly patrol the premises to prevent theft, violence, and rule infractions.
  • Monitoring Access: Control access to the property by monitoring and authorizing entrance and departure of employees, visitors, and other persons.
  • Incident Reporting: Write detailed reports of daily activities and irregularities, such as property damage, theft, or unauthorized presence.
  • Emergency Response: Respond to alarms and investigate disturbances, calling police or fire departments in emergencies.
  • Surveillance: Monitor CCTV footage and conduct inspections to ensure security of doors, windows, and gates.
  • Customer Service: Interact with the public, providing information and assistance as neededwhile maintaining a professional demeanor.
  • Ensures compliance with NISPOM, ICD 705, UL standards, and applicable governmental policies.

  • Patrols the Campus on foot, mobile, or monitors surveillance from a fixed stationary post. Monitor electronic surveillance system continuously for intruders. During each scheduled shift, it will be required to make rounds stopping at each "key in" station. Detects breaches in security and contacts appropriate authorities. Maintains detailed and accurate reports on each shift. Must lock and unlock doors and turn off lights during certain shifts. Always maintains dependable vigilance
  • Must understand and implement the incident response command system during an emergency. This includes the maintenance of Emergency Contact Information for all areas and knowing how to contact required individuals during an emergency. Cooperate with local authorities as needed.
  • Responds to internal and external alarms following all required procedures.
  • Reports all security concerns as observed and any failures of security systems (Access/ Intrusion/ Video systems).
  • Displays courtesy, tact, and effectiveness in dealing with others, provides outstanding customer service to everyone.
  • Perform other duties and assist other employees, as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Minimum Qualifications

  • US Citizenship required.
  • 1 - 3 years prior security, military, or law enforcement experience.
  • Must be able to obtain/maintain security clearance at a level equivalent to Department of War SECRET eligibility.
  • Minimum High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of and ability to utilize MS Office product suite (email, word, excel).
  • Must possess a valid Driver's license.
  • Ability to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Possess effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Security experience in government facilities or highly secure facilities (preferred).

WORK ENVIROMENT / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Work Environment & Conditions

This position will be performed in both indoor and outdoor environments and may be subject to various weather conditions. This position involves work in an office and laboratory environment and could require the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including:

  • Safety glasses
  • Hearing protection (varied based on tasks)
  • Operates in high-security environment where NISPOM compliance is critical to protecting personnel, assets, and classified information.

Physical Demands

In performing the work for this position, the security guard must be able to:

  • Perform work utilizing a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Sit for extended periods of time without being able to leave the work area.
  • Stand or walk for extended periods of time.
  • Climb stairs while performing work.
  • Ability to handle demanding situations, including potentially dealing with physical confrontations.
