Job description

POSITION TITLE: Coordinator of the Master of Arts in Religious Studies, Assistant Professor of Religion. This is a 12-month position.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position reports to the Dean of Graduate School and is responsible for administrative leadership, teaching, and advising within the Religious Studies program.

The candidate will be responsible for planning, preparing, delivering, and evaluating graduate asynchronous and synchronous instruction and related activities in the Religious Studies Program. The candidate will also be responsible for interviewing and vetting potential faculty for the program. In addition, the candidate will perform other duties as directed by the Dean of Graduate School. The appointment is a tenure track position.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Ph.D., D.Min., Th.D. or other advanced degrees in religion

2. Proficiency in areas of Religious Studies

3. Knowledge of instructional technology

4. Experience in teaching online and hybrid courses

5. Experience in adult education or understanding of adult learning theories

6. Corporate experience preferred

7. Quality Matters Online Teaching Certification preferred


RESPONSIBILITIES: Administrative

1. Coordinate administrative functions for the Religious Studies Program.

2. Represent the University at community and professional meetings.

3. Serve as the program spokesperson.

4. Meet with the Dean as needed to discuss all aspects of the course, including student progress and curriculum development (may be required to provide input into program development).

5. Assist the Dean in the collection of assessment data for the online program.

6. Approves capstone projects.


RESPONSIBILITIES: Instruction

1. Teach a reduced load of graduate courses.

2. Prepare course materials.

3. Provide studentsโ€™ syllabus that delineates course objectives, learning outcomes, teaching methodology, attendance policies in line with those of the School, textbooks, reading assignments timelines, evaluation criteria, and other deliverables.

4. Use the Universityโ€™s learning management system to post syllabus, assignments, and other materials and to communicate with students.

5. Deliver course content using a variety of teaching styles and provide interesting and engaging assignments that demonstrate the real-world applications of concepts covered.

6. Observe and evaluate student performance in meeting course objectives and learning outcomes through assignments, projects, discussions, or examinations; provide feedback promptly on student progress.

7. Be available for student consultation by phone or email by scheduling online office hours.

8. Maintain records of enrollment and attendance, assessments and grades, submit class rosters and grade by the deadlines established by the University.

9. Encourage students to submit course evaluations, review course evaluations when available, and use feedback to improve course delivery.

10. Revise and update course content as needed.

11. Programmatically advise online students using group or other advising methods.
