Course details: Introduction to the major authors, genres, and topics of German literature from the Middle Ages to the Age of Goethe, including the Nibelungenlied, Faust, classical tragedy, and the rise of the novel.

Contract dates: August 31, 2026 - January 5, 2027

Position Summary:

A Course Lecturer assignment includes all or part of the following teaching activities:

a) preparation of the Course and Course plan;
b) delivery of the Course;
c) evaluation of students;
d) submitting to the University a report on student attendance and student grades;
e) supervision of Teaching Assistants or any other teaching support staff;
f) upon request, review of their students' grades;
g) meeting with students, being available to answer questions and give advice concerning Course content and requirements;

Employees shall perform their duties in compliance with the Pedagogical Regulation and as specified in the administrative directives of the Hiring Unit. An Employee shall use appropriate pedagogical methods and material.
Teaching Qualification Requirements:

M.A. in German. Native or near native fluency in German required.

Experience:

A minimum of two semesters as instructor of a course at a similar level or to be a graduate student in German Studies in the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at McGill University. Course lecturers must demonstrate a familiarity with the course materials used in German Studies language courses.
