Job description

ATC is looking for Juvenile Detention Specialists in Wayne County in a correctional facility. CANDIDATES MUST BE ABLE TO WORK EITHER SHIFT, AS EMPLOYEES GET MANDATED OVERTIME OCCASIONALLY. 

Shift:

Afternoon shift (3:00 PM - 11:00 PM)

Shifts Include Price Differential for PM. 

Coverage Areas:
- Pods, Movement/Utility, Control Room Operations.
Duration:
- Initial term of 6 months.

Job Description

Juvenile Detention Specialists participate in the security, care and custody of youth residents in the Wayne County Juvenile Detention Facility who have been accused of criminal activity and are going through the judicial process.

Education and Experience

-Associates Degree or sixty (60) semester hours; OR
-A high school diploma or equivalent AND one (1) year or full-time paid experience working in any of the following: corrections, law enforcement, education, human services, social services, counseling or related field; AND

Licensing

A valid State of Michigan driver s license and an acceptable safe driving record.

Credentials

  • OIG, SAM, OFAC and NSO screening.
  • Hepatitis B Statement or Declination [OSHA 29 CFR, 1910.1030(f)(2)].
  • Tuberculosis screening, including an initial baseline TB test prior to being placed at the facility. Some facilities may require a 2-step PPD which consists of two-step testing with one week between tests, within the preceding 12 month or within the contract timeframe. The Quantiferon Gold test or T-spot may be used in lieu of the a TB skin test.
  • Drug screening as required by the contract. **MUST BE THC NEGATIVE (Federal building that follows federal laws)
  • Physical Exam
  • Clear criminal history check
  • (3) educational or professional references unrelated to the applicant
  • Competency testing, self skills testing, and Osha Approved Core Modules 
  • Be willing to accept appointment to any shift in a twenty four (24) and seven (7) day operation. 
  • Accept mandatory overtime

Tasks and Knowledge

Tasks

  • Responsible for the supervision and custodial care of a group of youths in the Wayne County Juvenile Detention Facility
  • Participate in the care, guidance and recreation of resident youths
  • Responsible for observing and following institutional policies, procedures and specific instructions for employees of higher classification, but they have latitude for independent actions in supervising youths
  • Supervise and instruct youths in personal hygiene, housekeeping and special detail work within the institution
  • Counsel delinquent youths on immediate behavioral problems as they arise
  • Supervise meals and maintain records of activities and behavior of youths in their charge
  • Report unusual incidents and all injuries to the Supervisor on duty
  • Responsible for documentation of youth activities and behavior, maintaining housekeeping supplies and clothing and special detail work in the facility
  • Cooperate with Family Independency Agency and internal investigations of alleged abuse
  • Transport juveniles as needed
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
