Description

Under the general supervision of the Environmental Sustainability Director, this term-limited position supports the development and implementation of the County's Materials Management Plan. The Coordinator will work collaboratively with County staff, consultants, advisory committees, and external partners to ensure project objectives and timelines are met. The position supports public engagement efforts, compliance with state regulations, data coordination, consultant deliverables, and grant administration. This role is grant-funded and is currently anticipated to begin in 2026, with potential extensions depending on continued funding availability.
Essential Functions
  1. Support the development of the County's Materials Management Plan by contributing to project planning, timeline tracking, deliverable review, and interdepartmental coordination.
  2. Assist in ensuring compliance with Part 115 of the Michigan Solid Waste Management Act, aligning plan development with state requirements and operational standards.
  3. Coordinate the exchange of data, resources, and materials between County departments, consultants, and the Planning Committee to support effective analysis and plan development.
  4. Review consultant work products, reports, and draft plans, offering feedback to ensure alignment with County objectives and standards.
  5. Support the public engagement process by helping to plan and attend meetings, identify key stakeholders, gather community feedback, and ensure accurate documentation of input.
  6. Serve in a support role to County staff and advisory committees, including preparing agendas, background materials, meeting notes, and conducting policy or technical research.
  7. Assist in identifying and developing partnerships with regional governments, universities, transportation providers, waste and recycling facilities, and other key stakeholders to support a regional approach to materials management.
  8. Contribute to the preparation of grant applications and assist in the administration and reporting of grant-funded activities.
  9. Assist in the development of internal goals, policies, and practices for Materials Management within County operations.

Education:
