The Division of General Internal Medicine at the University of Utah invites applications for the position of Mid- to Late-Career Clinician Investigator. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and accomplished clinician investigator to join our dynamic team and make a significant impact on health services research and patient care. Our Division of General Internal Medicine includes more than 120 faculty in Hospital Medicine, Primary Care Internal Medicine, and Palliative Care. We provide inpatient and outpatient care at University of Utah Hospitals and Clinics and our affiliated Salt Lake City VA Medical Center.
The Division of General Internal Medicine is recruiting a tenured or tenure track mid- to late-career clinician investigator faculty member at the Associate or Full Professor rank. We particularly encourage applications from clinician investigators interested in supporting and mentoring diverse initiatives within our research community. The successful candidates will have an outstanding record of research funding, productivity, and mentoring.
This position is for candidates that possess an M.D. or D.O. degree and a track-record of successful national research funding (e.g., NIH, AHRQ, VA, PCORI). Additional graduate degrees (e.g., PhD, MPH, MS) and research training/fellowship are also desirable. The successful candidate will have experience establishing and leading their own research team, developing an independent, extramurally funded research program, and mentoring trainees and junior faculty.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree
  • Board-certified in Internal Medicine
  • Established track record of research accomplishments with a focus on clinical investigation and/or health services research
  • Eligibility for licensure in the State of Utah
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and leadership skills
  • A strong history of successfully securing research funding
  • Experience in mentoring and training junior researchers
  • Experience with innovative research methodologies and technologies
This position offers start-up funding to establish the candidate in the Division of General Internal Medicine and an Endowed Chair (Mark Chair in Internal Medicine) with a yearly expendable account. In addition, all clinician investigators in the Department of Internal Medicine receive base salary support of 15% per year for research development and grant writing.
Research Areas of interest are not limited to but could include:
