Description
Royal Gorge Cross Country, Sugar Bowl's Nordic ski area, is seeking a dynamic and motivated Kitchen Assistant for the upcoming winter season! This position supports both back-of-house and front-of-house operations and reports to the F&B Operations Manager. You'll primarily work behind the scenes, focused on food preparation, menu execution and delivery during high-volume times, inventory control, and cashier duties when needed. Ideal candidates are self-motivated and thrive working independently in a fast-paced environment.

Sugar Bowl Resort has been proudly independent for over 80 years and is one of the oldest ski resorts in California. Situated atop beautiful Donner Summit, Sugar Bowl has a storied past with ties to Austrian ski culture, Hollywood and Walt Disney. This special community helped bring skiing to "sunny California" since December 1939. Since then, it continues to attract adventurous winter sports enthusiasts alike.
Who You Are:
• Excellent knowledge of food, paired with the passion and creativity to prepare it professionally
• Current ServSafe certification in proper food handling techniques, or willingness to obtain certification
• Able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
• Comfortable calculating figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
• Works well with others and treats guests and coworkers with respect
• A positive, can-do attitude and real team spirit
• Open to learning new skills and supporting other departments as needed - a versatile, team-first mindset
What You'll do:
• Provide excellent customer service to guests, employees, and business partners
• Cook foodstuffs in quantities according to the menu and number of guests being served
• Wash dishes, pots, and pans
• Check out cafe guests in the absence of a dedicated cashier
• Bake breads and pastries
• Maintain cleanliness in the cafe area
• Restock grab-and-go food items and beverages
• Assist the Lead Cook with menu planning, taking advantage of foods in season and local availability
• Oversee food and beverage operations of the Cross Country Center in the absence of the Lead Cook
• Help with monthly inventory, and food and custodial product purchasing
• Assist with snow removal, including shoveling and clearing walkways, stairs, equipment, and other areas as needed
• Cross-train and lend a hand in other departments as needed, building a broader understanding of resort operations.
• Take advantage of opportunities to learn new skills across the resort, supporting a well-rounded, team-first approach to the guest experience.
Physical Requirements:
• Comfortable standing, walking, and moving throughout the kitchen and cafe for most of a shift
• Capable of lifting and carrying up to 40 lbs, including food, supply, and equipment deliveries
• Comfortable working in a hot, fast-paced kitchen environment, as well as cold outdoor conditions when shoveling or handling deliveries
• Manual dexterity for food prep, baking, dishwashing, and point-of-sale operation
• Sufficient visual and auditory acuity to monitor food quality, safety, and a busy service floor
• Available to work varying shifts, including weekends and holidays
