Job description

PARR is the total source for homebuilding supplies, solutions, and services. We focus on supplying building materials and solutions to professional home builders of all sizes including custom builders, large production builders, and multifamily builders. Our customers and community members know that they can rely on us for Legendary Service and quality products.
Pay: $21.02-$25.50 an hour
The Counter Salesperson is the first person that a customer sees when they walk into any of the retail locations. This means that the Counter Salesperson is in many cases the face of the company for customers and should demonstrate our FACE values. This position's main duty is providing sales assistance to walk in and telephone customers. As time allows, they receive and stock inventory and perform general clean up and merchandising of the store.
Directly reports to Yard Manager. Interacts daily with General Manager, Assistant Manager, Location Supervisor, Operational Inventory Controller (OIC), Contractor Salespeople, delivery people and internal & external customers.
Duties and Responsibilities
Teamwork
  • Assist OIC in maintaining an appropriate level of inventory
  • Assist outside crew by loading customer vehicles and preparing loads for delivery, as needed
  • Receive and hold onto phone calls, emails, or other communications intended for a coworker who is currently unavailable, passing the information to them when they are
  • Clocks in on time and ready to work
  • Adheres to all company policies
  • Assists other team members with their work when appropriate
  • Attentive to counter and phones, does warm transfers
  • Communicates with Receiver regarding status of cancelled orders or materials returned to suppliers
  • Consistently displays problem solving skills with customers and co-workers
  • Keep store clean and maintain counter displays of merchandise and literature per PARR's standards
  • Actively works to build and maintain a positive environment for all employees and customers

Communication
  • Communicates professionally to yard crew via radio
  • Participates in team meetings and discussions
  • Notifies customer when product arrives
  • Confirms delivery time with customer after scheduled in current dispatching software
  • Responds to voicemails in a timely manner
  • Responds to emails promptly with correct grammar, tone, and spelling
  • Puts clear delivery and contact information on orders
  • Answer customer's questions, complete basic quotes, process estimates, and orders for customer
  • Greets customers with a smile and communicates with customers in a friendly manner
  • Develop and maintain a professional and effective relationship with customers

Job Knowledge
  • Completes online training as necessary in a timely manner
  • Completes basic ERP order entry; POs, backorders, and change orders
  • Invoice customers for building materials
  • Alerts Purchasing of any stock issues or needs, special order products for customers, and process notes per company policy
  • Knows product locations in store
  • Always puts store stock away
  • Regularly attend PK meetings
  • Understands how to use selling tools (Simpson book, Parr Pocket Guide book, online websites, Parr U, etc.)
  • Completed AMT training
  • Follows all AR account and cash handling procedures
  • Processes tax adjustments when necessary
  • Coordinate tool repairs services
  • Utilizes the interyard transfer system
  • Understands weight, height, and length limits, to inform customer of being able to safely handle or transport material
  • Process ROA payments with required information
  • Able to process Synchrony Bank financing options
  • Understands pricing levels and limits discounting
  • Able to seek out product transactions and order history
  • Uses all functions of Mitel
  • Follows proper material return procedures
  • Manages Outlook and personal notebook
  • Proactively uses resources to seek information
  • Can search inventory and open orders in all yards to meet customer's preferred option
  • Ability to issue gift cards and verify balances
  • Able to calculate LF, BF, SQF
  • Performs all other duties as assigned

Safety
  • Always wears high visibility when necessary and proper uniform
  • Regularly keeps aisles and walkways clear
  • Keeps workspace clutter free
  • Always demonstrates consistency in following all company safety protocols

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must be able to operate Point of Sale system, personal computer, smartphone, scanner, and any other equipment necessary for the job
  • Must be able to type 30+ WPM
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Class C driver's license or alternative transportation preferred
  • Ability to speak, write, and read English required
  • Knowledge of retail sales principles, practices, and protocols
  • Knowledge of dimension lumber and panel products and other building materials
  • Ability to ten-key by touch
  • Ability to concentrate and attend to detail amidst a busy work environment
  • OSHA Certified Forklift License preferred

  • Ability to work cordially, professionally, diplomatically and with a high level of customer service in a dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment in dealing with sensitive business matters with internal and external customers of all types. Must maintain confidentiality and accuracy of all information related to company finances and records, particularly, cost of goods purchased and sold.
  • Ability and willingness to identify processes, tools and/or procedures that may be improved upon to improve the workplace and outcomes for our customers.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of management and employees at a high skill level and speak effectively in front of groups. Communication can include, but is not limited to: in-person (verbal and non-verbal), written, e-mail, telephone, and public speaking to medium size groups

Working Conditions
The primary working conditions are at the sales counter of one of PARR's retail locations.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to work indoors in a normal office environment for an entire day
  • Must be able to grasp, talk, hear, and operate a computer and keyboard
  • Must be able to lift/push/pull up to 50 pounds and carry objects 50 feet
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Both local and overnight travel may be required
