Job description

About Shepherd Electric Supply

Since 1892, Shepherd Electric Supply has been the first call when complex, time-critical electrical challenges need to be solved and reliability truly matters. We move materials accurately and on time so contractors stay on schedule, projects stay on track, and customers never have to wonder if we'll come through.

Our success comes from people who take pride in doing things the right way - safely, accurately, and with care for teammates and customers alike. If you want to do work that matters at a company that notices, this is the place.

Why This Role Matters

Counter Sales is where Shepherd's reputation is made and kept - one transaction at a time. When customers walk through the door or call in with a time-sensitive need, the Counter Sales Representative is the face of Shepherd: knowledgeable, dependable, and ready to help.

When quotes are accurate, products are identified quickly, and customers feel taken care of, they come back. This role protects revenue, builds loyalty, and strengthens the relationships that drive Shepherd's growth.

Work Shift and Hours:

  • Monday - Friday, 6:00am - 3:00pm

Compensation Details:

  • The expected pay rate for this position is starting at $22.00 per hour depending on experience.

Key Outcomes - Organized by what matters, not just what you do.

Customer Experience & Sales Support

  • Assist walk-in and call-in customers with part identification, product selection, and order processing

  • Provide accurate quotes and follow through to close - no dropped handoffs

  • Build strong customer relationships that bring contractors and facility managers back by name

  • Represent Shepherd professionally in every interaction - appearance, conduct, and communication

Product Knowledge & Accuracy

  • Develop and maintain working knowledge of electrical products across multiple product lines

  • Identify parts correctly so customers get what they need the first time

  • Support accurate order processing so transactions are right before they leave the counter

  • Participate in ongoing product training to stay sharp and current

Team & Branch Support

  • Collaborate effectively with branch teammates in a fast-paced environment

  • Support multiple product lines and adapt to shifting priorities across the day

  • Complete tasks assigned by branch leadership with ownership and follow-through

  • Flag issues early - stock shortfalls, order concerns, customer escalations - before they compound

What Success Looks Like- After 90 days, you and your supervisor should both be able to point to these markers:

  • Customers are greeted promptly and leave with the right product and a positive experience

  • Quotes and orders are processed accurately - rework and returns tied to counter errors are rare

  • You can identify common electrical products and navigate the Eclipse system confidently

  • Teammates and supervisors trust that your counter runs without close supervision

  • You are actively building customer relationships that generate repeat business

Who Thrives Here- This role is a strong fit if:

  • You enjoy helping people and take satisfaction in solving problems quickly

  • You take pride in accuracy and care whether things are done right

  • You are dependable, organized, and steady under pressure

  • You communicate clearly and speak up when something is off

  • You are eager to learn the electrical industry and grow your expertise over time

Qualifications & Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • 1-3 years of experience in the electrical industry preferred; attitude and reliability matter more than years

  • Proficiency in computer usage; familiarity with Eclipse software is a plus

  • Bilingual (Spanish) proficiency is a plus

  • Physical ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, climb ladders, and lift items up to 70 lbs.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to getting things right the first time

  • Dependable attendance and a team-oriented mindset

  • Ability to successfully complete pre-employment screening requirements
