Job DescriptionOverview

We are seeking a Senior Cost Manager - Data Centers to join our team in Austin, TX.

Our data center team is growing! The Cost Manager - Data Centers serves as the client's main contact for providing project cost and schedule management services, including invoice validation, cost forecasting and reporting, change management, close out administration, earned value and risk management.This position is based out of one of our center of excellence hubs in Austin, TX; New Albany, OH; or Indianapolis, IN or preferably other cities located in the Central Time Zone and reports to an account lead, with potential for remote or hybrid for the right candidate.This is a full-time position with AtkinsRealis that comes with the opportunity to prove your true potential, provide expert services on world class projects, collaborate, and grow with professional services experts, and receive an attractive compensation package with robust benefits.

Your role
  • Manage, revise, and maintain status of the detailed project cost estimate/forecast to include all phases of project execution from design/engineering, material/equipment procurement and deliveries, construction contracts through start-up activities and closeout.

  • Track and analyze the project costs including budgets, commitments, actuals, accruals, and forecasts using Earned Value methodology. Analysis includes forecast and variance analysis (cost and schedule), trends, risk analysis with evaluation of contingency reserve and developing and maintaining an issue log.

  • Participate in the development and improvement of project controls systems. Recommend improvements in systems, tools, and methods of project controls and project management.

  • Establish a project work breakdown structure in line with industry best practices.

  • Assist in analyzing project control requirements as part of the bid review process to ensure all cost control requirements are incorporated into individual contracts and purchase orders.

  • Interact with other project groups in relation to cost codes, purchase order commitments, change orders.

  • Assist in creating detailed project budgets from estimates and in the development of cash flow projections.

  • Work with senior project management staff in managing the overall project cost control efforts.

  • Assist in early identification of long lead items, resource constraints, and required project start dates.

  • Manage key project indicators and project commercial reports.

  • Produce forecasts of total project costs, annual costs, and monthly cash flow costs and provides variance analysis and explanations.

  • Manage risk management process including driving the identification, evaluation, mitigation and management process of the risk management.

  • Work with the senior project management staff in ensuring all contract deliverables and deadlines are met.

About you
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Accounting, Finance or a related field.

  • RICS or QS certification preferred.

  • Preference for PMP - Project Management Professional (PMI) or CCP - Certified Cost Professional (AACE) or EVP - Earned Value Professional (AACE).

  • 5-10+ years of relevant experience in large to mega-sized construction projects.

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in data centers.

  • Must have strong cost management, project planning and estimating skills, as well as the communication skills necessary to interface with external engineering, architectural and construction firms, suppliers, the management team and other organizations within client organizations.

  • Must be able to use A/E and CM cost and/or schedule information to evaluate project status.

  • Must have experience in developing budgets, cash flows, and financial analysis.

  • Must have understanding of different types of contracts (Lump Sum, T&M etc.) and its implications on Project Management and overall project risks.

  • Must be adept at managing large dataset, preparing trend curves and performance dashboards and performing statistical and financial analysis in MS Excel or equivalent solution.

  • Must thoroughly understand and utilize Information Technology in the performance of work including Internet, Intranet, Microsoft Windows OS, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Project.

  • Must be highly articulate, have clear and analytical approach to problem solving, and strong decision making abilities.

  • Must have excellent communication and presentation skills.
