Job description

Job Summary:The Associate Research Scientist is responsible for assisting the Research Scientist and the Formulation Sciences department in the development of new OTC Skin Care/Cosmetic/Personal Care products from concept to commercialization to support company growth.
Reporting to: Vice President of Research & Development Clinical Affairs
Location: Johnson City, TN Onsite
Schedule: Mon - Fri, 8:00am - 5:00pm
Responsibilities/Essential Duties:
  • Develop formulations for OTC Skin Care, Cosmetic & Personal Care products.
  • Establishing/tracking formulation stability throughout the development process.
  • Work on formulation changes/upgrades of existing products to improve cost.
  • Assists with preparation of product registration documentation and product chemistry packages to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Properly document all experimental work neatly and correctly and in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Help establish guidelines and specifications for acceptance and testing of chemical raw materials and finished product.
  • Conduct research, gather documentation and experiments to develop claim substantiation.
  • Participate in team driven activities to facilitate on-going production improvements and/or new product development projects.
  • Well organized and flexible with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced highly matrixed environment while meeting established deadlines
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:
  • BS/MS in Chemistry or related discipline.
  • 1-3 years of experience in cosmetic/personal care product development.
  • Experience with Viscometers, Mixers, pH meter and other OTC Skin Care/Cosmetic/Personal care Lab equipment is REQUIRED.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing with the ability to communicate complex data effectively.
  • Must possess the ability and desire to prioritize workload, multi-task and manage time effectively

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prefer familiarity with OTC/Personal Care/Cosmetic Regulatory requirements and cGMP.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
This position requires extended periods of standing and walking on a manufacturing floor environment. Protective equipment (safety glasses, hearing protection, gowning) must be worn as required. The role operates in a temperature-controlled pharmaceutical manufacturing facility. Occasional lifting of up to 30 lbs may be required. Must be available to respond to critical shift issues outside of scheduled hours on an as-needed basis.
