*The work location for this Senior Underwriter role is flexible to a few of our Corporate Solutions offices across the United States.  This includes Alpharetta GA -- Chicago IL -- NYC NY -- Houston TX.

About The Team:

Supporting the North American Engineering & Construction team, you will join a team of experienced underwriters, focused on profit-oriented underwriting for large and middle-market construction projects.

About The Role:

We're looking for a highly motivated and result oriented Senior Underwriter to join the North American Engineering and Construction team in the USA and:

  • Support the team to profitability by developing the US E&C portfolio meeting the financial goals, and thus expanding the Swiss Re Corporate Solutions footprint in the market.
  • Underwrite construction risks in accordance with Swiss Re's process, procedures, business philosophy and appetite, for nationwide large and midsize construction projects for a wide range of occupancies: power, renewable energy, manufacturing, infrastructure, building and heavy civil works sectors...
  • Actively identify client needs and growth potential and develop tailor-made solutions in partnership with clients / brokers.
  • Play an active role in the Swiss Re Global Engineering community in terms of knowledge sharing, training, special projects and / or research topics.
  • Properly maintain underwriting documentation, ensure high data quality in underwriting system and follow-up post bound activities such as endorsement, premium payment, claim data, filing.
  • Support the growth of associated lines of business by actively cross-selling the capabilities of Swiss Re Corporate Solutions and work in cooperation with colleagues within Swiss Re when and where required.

About You:

  • University degree in Science / Engineering with...
    • 5 to 10 years of relevant work experience in Underwriting Engineering & Construction
  • Excellent understanding of the US insurance market with an established network of Engineering and Construction brokers
  • Flexible to work in both a collaborative team environment as well as independently
  • A can-do attitude / creative approach and feeling comfortable working in an area that is fluid and dynamic
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Availability for travel in USA
  • Fluency in English

The role is open to our New York City (NY) - Chicago (IL) - Alpharetta (GA)  - Houston (TX) -- office locations. For roles located within our Swiss Re offices, our company has a hybrid work model where the expectation is that you will be in the office three days per week on average. 

For New York City, the estimated base salary range for the Senior Underwriter is $168,000 to $252,000. For the other three locations, the estimated base salary range is $160,000 to $240,000.   The specific salary offered for this or any given role will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to job location, scope of role, qualifications, complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent, experience, education, and employer budget.  At Swiss Re, we take a "total compensation approach" when making compensation decisions. This means that we consider all components of compensation in their totality (such as base pay, short-and long-term incentives, and benefits offered), in setting individual compensation.
