Job Title

Head of Corporate Banking – Puerto Rico

Banesco USA is seeking a Head of Corporate Banking for our Corporate Banking Department at our Puerto Rico location.

Primary Job Duties

  • Lead and mentor a team of Relationship Managers (RMs), providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations to ensure they meet their goals.
  • Lead business development efforts to attract and retain high-value corporate clients in the Puerto Rican market.
  • Guide bankers to identify market opportunities and trends in Commercial Real Estate (CRE) and Commercial & Industrial (C&I) lending to develop innovative banking solutions and stay competitive.
  • Represent the bank at industry events, conferences, and community forums to enhance Banesco USA’s brand and network.
  • Oversee the loan pipeline and approval process to ensure timely closing of deals.
  • Approve or recommend credit applications, ensuring they meet the bank's risk appetite and lending policies.
  • Ensure the corporate banking department’s strategic direction aligns with the bank's overall business strategy.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and high performance within the team.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as loan growth, portfolio quality, and profitability.
  • Ensure strict adherence to all internal policies and local and federal banking regulations.
  • Collaborate with the Market President on Corporate Banking team activities, including recruiting, hiring, training, coaching, mentoring, and performance management. This includes fostering a positive and high-performing team culture.
  • Perform other duties and functions as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in business administration or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: 15+ years of experience in corporate lending and vast experience in a management role.
  • Market Knowledge: Strong knowledge of the domestic market and industry trends.
  • Negotiation Skills: Proven ability to negotiate favorable terms while maintaining strong client relationships.
  • Sales Acumen: Experience developing and executing sales strategies, including market and competitive analysis, and sales forecasting.
  • Leadership: Strong leader who inspires and motivates teams, fosters a positive culture, delegates effectively, and resolves conflicts.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate at all organizational levels.
  • Bilingual: Must be fluent in both English and Spanish (written and verbal).
  • Technical Skills: Advanced computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Banking Regulations: Solid understanding of banking regulations from entities such as the OCC, FDIC, FRB, and FFIEC.
  • Presentation Skills: Strong presentation skills to effectively propose ideas and report progress to all levels of the bank, from employees to the Board of Directors.
  • Proactiveness: Proactive and innovative, capable of leading change management and prioritizing objectives with tight deadlines.
  • Customer Service: Strong customer service skills to ensure satisfaction for both internal and external customers.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to provide effective solutions for customers.
