Description

Coronation of Our Lady Catholic Church in Grandview, MO, is seeking a part time Music Director to work closely with the pastor, and/or parish musicians whom he delegates, to grow and develop a sacred music program that will foster reverence and beauty in our worship, consonant with the liturgical vision of the Second Vatican Council. 


The goal of the Music Director will be to deepen the congregation's appreciation for the Church's liturgical musical tradition (a "treasure of inestimable value"). This is an excellent opportunity for the right Catholic musician to put their creative talents and energies to use in service of the Kingdom of God, with the freedom to build upon a solid foundation of liturgical reverence.


Responsibilities:

  1. Plan, select, coordinate, and conduct music for: (1) Sunday morning Mass; (2) Holy Days of Obligation; and (3) Special liturgical seasons and feasts (Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter).
  2. Select settings for the ordinary of the Mass, dialogues, propers, and any hymns or choral pieces to maintain consistency and congruity of style within a given Mass, and in continuity with the selections of predecessor music directors.
  3. Lead choir rehearsal including parish organist.
  4. Select choristers and hold choir to high choral standards; develop multiple choirs: Adult and Children and Men's and Women's scholas. 
  5. Provide educational workshops, communications, and other materials to the parish to build upon and enrich our understanding of music in the Catholic liturgical tradition.
  6. (Time and resources permitting) Conduct music lessons.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  1. Practicing Catholic with ethical standards, personal integrity, and conduct consistent with the morals and teachings of the Catholic Church; includes faithful obedience to the Magisterium.
  2. Strong understanding of, and reverence for, the Novus Ordo Catholic Mass.
  3. 2+ years' experience directing a choir with polyphony and chant elements, preferred.
  4. Bachelor's Degree in Music or the equivalent in education and experience, required.
  5. Considerable instrumental and vocal skills.
