This position is ideal for a motivated roadway design professional seeking growth into a project engineer role within a collaborative, employee-owned firm.

Position Description

This role is suited for an engineer with 5–10 years of roadway design experience on local and/or state transportation projects who is ready to assume a lead design role on roadway and bridge projects. The successful candidate will possess a strong understanding of geometric roadway and roadside design and be capable of producing roadway plans for Alabama state and local clients.

Your Role and Responsibilities

As a Transportation Project Engineer, you will work closely with team leaders and support staff to deliver high-quality roadway and bridge designs throughout the Southeast. Responsibilities include:

  • Preparing preliminary design studies, project planning documents, and related activities

  • Developing project specifications, cost and material estimates, reports, and engineering studies

  • Producing design, detail, and layout drawings and sketches

  • Managing task schedules, submittals, and project budgets to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery

  • Ensuring compliance with company safety and quality policies and procedures


Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering

  • 5–10 years of relevant experience

  • Alabama Professional Engineer (PE) license, or ability to obtain, required

  • Proven experience with ALDOT design methods, standards, specifications, and plan preparation

  • Proficiency in MicroStation, InRoads, and other Bentley products

  • Working knowledge of OpenRoads preferred

  • Strong knowledge of drainage design and applicable software

  • Ability to manage client expectations, project schedules, and budgets

  • Ability to mentor and train entry-level engineers

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work both in the field and in an office environment for extended periods

  • Ability to work flexible schedules and overtime as required

  • Ability to sit for extended periods and operate a computer

  • Ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)

  • Valid driver's license and ability to operate a company vehicle if required
