Senior Fhir Developer information

What is a senior FHIR developer?

Senior FHIR Developers are experienced software engineers who specialize in implementing and integrating solutions using the Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) standard. They design, develop, and maintain healthcare applications that facilitate secure and efficient exchange of electronic health information. Their responsibilities often include creating APIs, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations, optimizing data interoperability, and mentoring junior developers. Senior FHIR Developers play a crucial role in advancing healthcare IT systems by enabling seamless data sharing across different platforms.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a senior FHIR developer?

To thrive as a Senior FHIR Developer, you need deep knowledge of HL7 FHIR standards, interoperability protocols, and strong programming skills (such as Java, .NET, or Python), typically supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Experience with FHIR servers, cloud platforms (like AWS or Azure), RESTful APIs, and certifications such as HL7 FHIR Proficiency are highly valuable. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and project management skills help you collaborate with cross-functional teams and address complex integration challenges. These skills are crucial for ensuring robust, scalable, and compliant healthcare data solutions that support seamless interoperability across systems.

What are common challenges senior FHIR developers face when integrating FHIR standards with legacy healthcare systems?

Senior FHIR Developers often encounter challenges when connecting modern FHIR-based APIs to existing legacy healthcare systems, which may use older data formats or proprietary interfaces. Ensuring data consistency, handling data mapping, and maintaining interoperability across platforms can require creative solutions and close collaboration with both IT and clinical teams. Additionally, compliance with healthcare regulations and maintaining robust security protocols are critical considerations throughout the integration process. These challenges make strong problem-solving skills and clear communication essential in this role.

About the Role

As a Senior Software Engineer at NeuroFlow, you bring deep full-stack expertise and sound technical judgment to complex engineering problems in behavioral health technology. You take ownership of significant pieces of the codebase and architecture, mentor other engineers, and partner with stakeholders beyond your immediate team to make sure what you build holds up in production and serves the people who depend on it.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the design and implementation of complex full-stack features and services, exercising independent judgment in selecting the methods, tools, and technical approach.
  • Anticipate technical risks and architectural blockers proactively, and translate them into concrete solutions before they affect delivery.
  • Own prioritization of your technical workstreams, with manager approval, and partner directly with senior stakeholders outside your immediate team to align technical approach with product and business needs.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, providing hands-on technical guidance and raising the bar on code quality within the team.
  • Introduce improved engineering practices, tooling, and patterns that measurably raise the team's velocity and reliability.
  • Network with senior engineers and technical stakeholders outside your immediate area of expertise to inform design and architecture decisions.

What You Should Have

  • Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in full-stack web development.
  • Deep expertise in object-oriented programming with C#, advanced skills in TypeScript, and significant experience with .NET Framework or .NET 5+.
  • Proficiency with leading front-end frameworks such as Angular, React, or Vue.
  • Experience designing and implementing complex backend APIs and services using .NET Framework or .NET 5+.
  • Strong background with ORMs and databases (e.g., nHibernate, Entity Framework, SQL Server).
  • Proficiency writing unit, integration, and UI automation tests.
  • Experience with CI/CD tooling such as GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps.
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes), either migrating toward it or maintaining it in production.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with cloud architectures on AWS or Azure.
  • Familiarity with healthcare interoperability standards such as HL7 and FHIR.
  • Familiarity building integrations with EHRs.

Who You Are

  • An experienced engineer who takes ownership and enjoys mentoring others.
  • A clear communicator who works well across teams and can bring others along on a technical decision.
  • A critical thinker who's comfortable turning a messy, complex system into something simpler and more maintainable.

Security Requirements
