If you're committed to public safety and believe in the power of education to transform communities, this role puts both at the center of your career.
Protecting the Bulldog Community
As a full-time Law Enforcement Officer II at SC State, you'll help maintain a safe and secure campus environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Reporting through the VP of Operations division, your core responsibilities will include:
  • Patrolling campus grounds, buildings, and parking areas on foot and by vehicle to deter and respond to criminal activity
  • Responding to emergency and non-emergency calls for service, conducting preliminary investigations, and preparing accurate incident reports
  • Enforcing South Carolina state laws, university policies, and traffic regulations on campus property
  • Building visible, positive relationships with the campus community through consistent engagement and professional conduct

What You Bring
  • Current South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) certification, or eligibility to obtain certification within a defined period
  • High school diploma or GED; associate or bachelor's degree in criminal justice or related field preferred
  • Valid South Carolina driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment in high-pressure situations
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for accurate reporting and community interaction
  • No felony convictions and ability to pass a comprehensive background investigation

Why SC State
SC State's legacy as a cornerstone HBCU in Orangeburg means the work you do every day directly supports a mission rooted in access, excellence, and equity. University employees benefit from the South Carolina state retirement system, comprehensive health coverage, and generous paid leave. As part of a close-knit campus community, you'll find that your presence genuinely matters - officers here are known by name, not badge number.
