What is the highest paying job in the wine industry?

In the wine industry, executive roles such as winery CEOs or chief winemakers tend to be the highest paying jobs, often earning six-figure salaries. These positions require extensive experience, leadership skills, and industry knowledge, and may involve overseeing operations, production, and strategic planning.

Is it hard to get a job in the wine industry?

Getting a job in the wine industry can vary depending on the role, with positions like sales, tasting room staff, or production often requiring relevant experience or certifications. Entry-level roles may be more accessible, but competitive positions typically demand knowledge of wine, customer service skills, and industry familiarity.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Wine Sales Representative (Coravin), and why are they important?

To thrive as a Wine Sales Representative for Coravin, you need strong knowledge of wine industry trends, sales techniques, and a background in hospitality or wine studies. Familiarity with CRM software, point-of-sale systems, and Coravin’s wine preservation products is typically required. Exceptional interpersonal skills, persuasive communication, and customer service orientation help build lasting client relationships. These skills are crucial for effectively promoting Coravin solutions, driving sales, and maintaining customer satisfaction in a competitive market.

What is a Coravin and how does it work in the wine industry?

A Coravin is a specialized wine preservation system that allows users to pour wine from a bottle without removing the cork. It works by inserting a thin, hollow needle through the cork and replacing the poured wine with inert argon gas, which prevents oxidation and allows the remaining wine to stay fresh for weeks or even months. This technology is especially useful for wine enthusiasts, restaurants, and retailers who want to sample or serve wine by the glass without committing to the entire bottle. Coravin helps reduce wine waste and enables a broader tasting experience.

What are some of the common challenges faced by Coravin Sales Representatives in the wine industry?

Coravin Sales Representatives often face the challenge of educating clients—such as restaurants, wine retailers, and distributors—on the unique value proposition of Coravin's wine preservation technology. Gaining buy-in from traditionalists who are accustomed to conventional wine service methods can require persistence and strong communication skills. Additionally, the role involves balancing a dynamic schedule of client meetings, product demonstrations, and follow-ups, often across a large territory. Success in this position relies on building long-term relationships and staying informed about evolving trends in both the wine and technology sectors.

Who is the CEO of Coravin?

As of October 2023, the CEO of Coravin is Ben Davis. He has been leading the company since 2020, overseeing product development and business strategy.

Is Coravin worth it?

Coravin is a device used to pour wine without removing the cork, allowing for preservation and tasting over time. Its value depends on wine consumption habits and whether the cost aligns with the benefits of maintaining wine quality; it is often considered worthwhile for wine enthusiasts and professionals who serve or store wine regularly.

General Manager

Solera - Kitchen + Wine Bar

Seal Beach, CA • On-site

$75K/yr

Full-time

Posted 24 days ago

Job description

About Solera

Solera is a scratch kitchen and wine bar on Main Street in Seal Beach, opened in 2026. We serve Modern European-inspired food rooted in French, Italian, and Spanish foundations, paired with a 60-label wine program featuring Old World selections, curated by-the-glass pours, and Coravin showcases. Charcuterie and Take Away are central to our concept. This is an owner-operated independent with high standards and a long-term vision.

The Role

We’re looking for a General Manager who can own the floor, lead the team, and run day-to-day operations independently. You’ll be the face of Solera to guests and the operational anchor for ownership. The goal is simple: within 90 days, the restaurant runs through you, not around you.

What You’ll Own

  • Full FOH management: staffing, scheduling, training, and service standards
  • Daily operations including open/close, cash controls, and POS reporting (SpotOn)
  • Reservation management via SevenRooms
  • Guest experience from greeting through the check, including table maintenance standards we hold to a high level
  • Onboarding and compliance: food handler cards, RBS certification, and staff documentation
  • Weekly reporting to ownership on covers, revenue, labor, and any issues

What We’re Looking For

  • 2+ years in a restaurant management role, preferably in an upscale or polished casual environment
  • Wine knowledge is a genuine plus — WSET, CSW, sommelier certification, or strong hands-on experience working with a wine program will set you apart
  • Strong operator: you know how to hold a team accountable while keeping the culture positive
  • Lives within 15 minutes of Seal Beach — non-negotiable for scheduling reliability
  • California RBS certified or willing to complete certification within 60 days of hire (company covers the cost)
  • Comfortable with modern POS and reservation systems

What This Isn’t

This is not a corporate job with layers of support. You’ll work directly with ownership and our Executive Chef. We move fast, we have high standards, and we need someone who wants to build something rather than manage a status quo.

Compensation

$75,000 salary. No tips pooled to management.
