Job description

Along with meeting the mentioned requirements, you must also successfully pass typing test, performance test, and oral exam (formally known as "interview") to be considered eligible for hire.ย Internal candidates are encouraged to apply using their employee portal for consideration.

The starting salary for this position is $27,669 annually under The Philadelphia Federation of Teachers Union salary schedule.

Job Summary

Provides clerical support in an assigned office or school.ย  Performs varied clerical tasks which include typing, filing, scheduling and answering telephones.ย 

Essential Functions

  • Types correspondence, reports, and various forms including accounting and fiscal statements.
  • Composes and types form letters or answers to routine correspondence.
  • Assembles statistical information for various reports.
  • Answers telephones and personal inquiries which require knowledge of school and administrative rules, regulations and procedures; routes visitors and calls; secures and releases routine information.
  • Operates a personal computer to perform word processing and other functions relative to assigned work.
  • Sorts correspondence, checks, vouchers, index cards, and other materials; maintains and purges files.
  • Posts and maintains records for personnel, payroll, equipment, pupils and other areas as needed.
  • Prepares requisitions for and maintains records of supplies and equipment.
  • Schedules meetings for superior or other personnel.
  • Operates copy and fax machines.

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of:
    • office practices and procedures, and the operation and maintenance of standard office equipment.
    • basic personal computer equipment and word processing functions.
    • ย business English, spelling and arithmetic.

Ability to:

  • ย type from clear copy at a minimum speed of 40 net corrected words per minute.
  • ย  use a personal computer and word processing software effectively.
  • ย perform moderately varied arithmetic computations and tabulations accurately with reasonable speed.
  • ย  maintain clerical records and prepare report forms.
  • ย  learn the rules and regulations of administrative or school offices.
  • ย  speak English and the appropriate foreign language fluently.
