How much do copper brazing jobs pay per hour?

As of Aug 21, 2026, the average hourly pay for copper brazing in the United States is $20.65, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $17.31 and $24.04 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is copper brazing?

A Copper Brazing job involves joining copper or copper alloy parts by heating them and applying a filler metal with a lower melting point than the base metals. The process requires precise heat control and flux to ensure a strong, leak-proof bond. Workers in this role commonly assemble HVAC components, plumbing systems, or industrial equipment. It requires knowledge of metallurgy, torch handling, and safety procedures. Skilled copper brazers ensure durable and high-quality connections in manufacturing and construction applications.

What skills and qualifications are needed for copper brazing?

To thrive in a Copper Brazing role, you need a strong understanding of metal joining techniques, blueprint reading, and experience with industrial brazing equipment, typically supported by vocational training or relevant certifications. Familiarity with torches, fluxes, safety gear, and often certifications such as AWS (American Welding Society) brazing credentials are valuable. Attention to detail, hand-eye coordination, and the ability to work well in a team environment are important soft skills. These competencies ensure high-quality, reliable brazed joints and maintain safety and productivity standards in manufacturing or repair settings.

What are the typical working conditions for copper brazing?

Copper Brazing professionals usually work in manufacturing plants, HVAC assembly shops, or metal fabrication environments, where they may stand for extended periods and work with high temperatures and specialized equipment. The role often requires wearing personal protective equipment such as gloves, safety glasses, and flame-resistant clothing to ensure safety. Depending on the employer, you could work independently or as part of a team, collaborating with welders, quality inspectors, or engineers to meet production goals. Some positions may require overtime or shift work, especially during high demand periods. Understanding these conditions can help you determine if the job matches your preferences and work style.

Do you have to be certified to braze copper?

Copper brazing is a skilled trade that often requires training and certification, especially for commercial or industrial work. Certification can improve job prospects and ensure safety standards are met, but requirements vary by region and employer. Practical experience and knowledge of safety procedures are also important for this role.

Job description

You've discovered something special. A company that cares. Cares about leading the way in construction, engineering, manufacturing and renewable energy. Cares about redefining how energy is designed, applied and consumed. Cares about thoughtfully growing to meet market demands. And as "one of the Healthiest 100 Workplaces in America" is focused on the mind/body/soul of team members through our Culture of Care.

This position operates within a digitally driven fabrication workflow, utilizing BIM-generated spool drawings from platforms such as Revit and Stratus. In addition to pipe fabrication, this role contributes to the assembly and installation of components such as valves, flanges, grooved systems, mechanical couplings, and specialty fittings. The Pipe Fitter / Welder may also assist in building mechanical equipment skids, copper headers, pipe racks, and other prefabricated assemblies that are delivered as complete systems to the field. This role is ideal for skilled tradespeople who take pride in craftsmanship and want to work with modern fabrication technology in a clean, organized manufacturing environment-not constantly in the field. Our shop is built around advanced equipment and digital workflows that improve precision, efficiency, and weld quality while producing high-standard prefabricated piping systems and mechanical assemblies. With consistent shop work, structured production schedules, and long-term growth opportunities, this position offers stability and the chance to be part of building one of the most advanced mechanical fabrication operations in North America.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: High School or GED. Welding certifications (AWS, ASME, or equivalent) are a plus

Experience: 3+ years experience fitting, fabricating, and welding piping systems using stainless steel, copper, and carbon steel. Experience working in a mechanical fabrication shop or manufacturing environment producing prefabricated piping systems or equipment skids. Experience reading and interpreting piping isometrics, spool drawings, and BIM-generated fabrication drawings.

Preferred: Proficiency in TIG welding with experience in MIG, stick welding and copper brazing processes. Familiarity with modern fabrication equipment including pipe positioners, automated saws, beveling tools, and CNC pipe processing machinery. Hands on experience with pipe layout, measurement, cutting, beveling, fit-up, and assembly of pipe spools.

Travel: 0-25%

Work Schedule: This position works between the hours of 6 am to 6 pm, Monday through Friday.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Fit, fabricate, and assemble piping systems using stainless steel, copper, and carbon steel.
  • Perform TIG welding, MIG welding, and copper brazing in accordance with shop procedures and quality standards.
  • Read and interpret piping isometrics, spool drawings, and BIM-generated fabrication drawings.
  • Layout, measure, cut, prep, and assemble pipe spools and mechanical assemblies, including precision joint fit-up.
  • Operate modern fabrication equipment such as welding machines, pipe positioners, automated saws, and CNC pipe processing equipment.
  • Interpret detailed fabrication drawings, isometrics, and spool sheets to plan work accurately
  • Lay out, measure, cut, and assemble piping systems and mechanical components
  • Prepare pipe joints through beveling, cleaning, alignment, and fit-up
  • Perform TIG, MIG, stick welding, and brazing in accordance with established procedures and quality standards
  • Operate advanced shop equipment, including welding machines, pipe positioners, automated saws, grinders, beveling tools, and CNC pipe cutting/profiling machines
  • Maintain strict quality standards and ensure all work meets fabrication tolerances and project specifications
  • Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work environment
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.

The job description and responsibilities described are intended to provide guidelines for job expectations and the employee's ability to perform the position described. It is not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all functions, responsibilities, skills, and abilities. Additional functions and requirements may be assigned by supervisors as deemed appropriate.
