Copilot Developer information

What is a Copilot Developer?

A Copilot Developer is a software professional who specializes in integrating, customizing, or developing solutions using AI-powered coding assistants, such as GitHub Copilot. Their role often includes enhancing developer workflows by leveraging these AI tools, contributing to codebases, and ensuring that AI-generated code meets quality and security standards. They may also provide feedback to improve Copilot's suggestions and help teams adopt AI-assisted development practices. Copilot Developers often have strong programming skills and a deep understanding of how to effectively collaborate with AI tools.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Copilot Developer?

To thrive as a Copilot Developer, a strong background in software engineering, proficiency in languages such as Python, JavaScript, or TypeScript, and experience with AI/ML concepts are essential, often supported by a relevant degree. Familiarity with GitHub Copilot, code editors like Visual Studio Code, and cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, effective communication, and a collaborative mindset help developers integrate AI tools into workflows and assist end-users. These skills ensure efficient, innovative solutions and maximize the impact of AI-powered code assistance in software development environments.

What is the difference between Copilot Developer vs AI Software Engineer?

While both roles involve AI and software development, a Copilot Developer primarily focuses on creating and improving AI coding assistants, whereas an AI Software Engineer designs and implements AI models across various applications. The roles overlap in skills but differ in their core objectives and work environments.

What are some common challenges Copilot Developers face when integrating AI-powered coding assistants into existing development workflows?

Copilot Developers often encounter challenges such as ensuring seamless integration of AI-assisted coding tools with a variety of development environments and version control systems. They must address concerns around code quality, security, and maintaining team coding standards, as AI-generated suggestions may not always align with best practices. Additionally, developers need to foster collaboration and trust within teams, encouraging effective use of Copilot without diminishing peer code reviews or knowledge sharing. Successful Copilot Developers proactively gather feedback from users and iterate on integration strategies to optimize productivity and code reliability.

Job description

Hearst Television (HTV) is hiring a Senior Copilot & Azure AI Foundry Engineer to lead the build of our next-generation platform. You will be instrumental in designing, building, stabilizing, and scaling enterprise-grade AI solutions using Microsoft's Azure AI ecosystem. As a senior technical resource with expertise in AI architectures, MLOps, and orchestration frameworks, you will evaluate and enhance our Copilot Studio agents, ensuring they are scalable, accurate, maintainable, and aligned with modern Azure AI best practices. This role is central to our mission of transforming media sales through prescriptive, actionable intelligence. This position does not provide sponsorship.
What You'll Do
• Copilot Optimization: Analyze and refactor Copilot Studio agents to eliminate redundancies, improve routing efficiency, and streamline topic structures for better maintainability.
• Generative AI Modernization: Transition static, rule-based topics into grounded generative experiences and replace legacy ingestion methods with modern Azure AI approaches.
• Advanced RAG Implementation: Enhance solution accuracy by integrating Azure AI Foundry capabilities, including Cognitive Search with vector embeddings and custom RAG endpoints.
• Sophisticated AI Features: Implement high-level capabilities like multi-step reasoning, context persistence, summarization, and function calling for complex user interactions.
• End-to-End MLOps: Design and manage scalable AI/ML pipelines, covering everything from model fine-tuning and versioning to CI/CD, monitoring, and security.
• Architectural Leadership: Serve as the technical lead to design scalable architectures, guiding best practices and ensuring internal teams can maintain the solution post-handoff.
• Operational Enablement: Develop infrastructure-as-code for resilient workloads and produce comprehensive documentation, including troubleshooting guides and operational playbooks.
Requirements
• Experience: 8+ years in software architecture or cloud engineering, with at least 3+ years specifically focused on production-grade AI/ML solutions.
• AI Ecosystem: Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Copilot Studio and Azure AI Foundry (formerly Azure AI Studio).
• Technical Proficiency: Expert-level Python for AI/ML development and automation; additional experience in C#, .NET, or Java is preferred.
• AI Specialization: Solid understanding of Generative AI, prompt engineering, RAG architectures, embeddings, and vector databases.
• MLOps & DevOps: Demonstrated experience with model lifecycle management, CI/CD pipelines, and designing resilient, serverless AI workloads.
• Problem Solving: Proven ability to troubleshoot, refactor, and optimize existing AI solutions to meet 99.8% accuracy targets.
• Soft Skills: Ability to lead architectural discussions with executive stakeholders and translate business needs into technical AI requirements.
Values in Action
At Hearst Television we tell stories every day. Stories about people of all backgrounds, perspectives, and identities. That's why, behind the scenes, we believe in being an organization that fosters collaboration and open communication, ensuring that the content we create is authentic, accurate, and connected to the communities we serve.

• Medical | Dental | Vision
• 401(k) matching
• Emotional Wellness Support
