Job description

Southside Medical Center is seeking an experienced PCU / Stepdown RN for a contract-to-permanent opportunity on a busy intermediate care unit. This role allows you to start on contract, evaluate fit, and transition into a long-term position.

Position Overview

  • Contract-to-permanent opportunity
  • Start date: January 26, 2026
  • Initial contract through April 25, 2026
  • Schedule: 12-hour nights
  • Every other weekend and holiday required
  • ITO interview
  • Dysrhythmia exam required (study guide available)

Unit Details

  • 29-bed PCU/Intermediate Care unit (can expand to 37 beds)
  • Ratios typically 1:3–5 (staffing dependent)
  • Support staff: PCTs and unit coordinators
  • Equipment includes telemetry monitors, IV pumps, PCA pumps, wound vacs, warming blankets
  • Floating to other MS/Tele units may be required

Patient Population

  • CHF, COPD, pneumonia, respiratory failure
  • CKD, diabetes, sepsis
  • GI bleeds, UTIs, complex medical patients

Required Experience & Skills

  • 2 years of recent PCU / Stepdown experience
  • Strong critical thinking and time management
  • Telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia recognition
  • IV insertion, NG tube management, wound care
  • Oxygen therapy and medication administration
  • Early recognition of patient deterioration

Certifications Required

  • Active RN license (compact or state)
  • BLS and ACLS

Preferred

  • Advanced cardiac rhythm interpretation
  • Experience with cardiac drips
  • EPIC charting experience
  • PCCN or CCRN
