Job description

Position Title

Vice President for Mission and Ministry

Position Overview

Marquette University invites nominations and applications for an inspiring and strategic leader to serve as its next Vice President for Mission & Ministryโ€”a pivotal role at one of the nationโ€™s leading Catholic, Jesuit universities.

Duties and Responsibilities

This is a rare opportunity to help shape the future of a university deeply committed to excellence in teaching, research, and service โ€” and to advance a mission that forms students to become leaders โ€œfor and with others.โ€ Reporting directly to the president and serving on the Presidentโ€™s Cabinet, the Vice President for Mission & Ministry will guide mission integration across academic, student life, and community engagement efforts at a transformative moment in Marquetteโ€™s history. This role will play a central role in bringing the vision from the institutional strategic plan to life โ€“ strengthening Catholic, Jesuit identity while engaging a diverse, global community of learners.

The Vice President for Mission & Ministry will:

  • Serve as a compelling ambassador for Marquetteโ€™s Catholic, Jesuit mission on campus and beyond.
  • Foster mission integration in academic programs, student formation, and campus culture.
  • Provide innovative leadership for Campus Ministry and Ignatian spirituality initiatives.
  • Partner with faculty and administrators to embed mission in hiring, development, and decisionโ€‘making.
  • Champion inclusion, dialogue, and care for the whole person (cura personalis).

This role offers the chance to shape a national model for Jesuit higher education โ€” ensuring that mission is not only preserved but dynamically lived in a rapidly changing world.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

A deep commitment to Catholic, Jesuit higher education; experience leading in complex organizations; the ability to communicate mission with clarity and conviction; and the collaborative leadership style needed to unite diverse voices around shared purpose.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Preference will be given to members of the Society of Jesus. A terminal degree and demonstrated understanding of the vocation of faculty at a major university is strongly preferred.
