Job Description / Essential Elements:
DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
Assists in the management and administration of services and programs within the Special Education Department.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists in the administration of the following programs: Speech and Language Services Adapted P.E. Services Occupational Therapy Services Special Education Programs Chairs and conducts meetings as directed. Assists in the supervision and evaluation of personnel in Special Education Department as directed. Maintains an updated working knowledge of laws, regulations, and Board policies relating to Special Education. Serves as District representative on the Program Advisory Committee for the West End SELPA and/or department representative for administrative, parent and staff meetings, as directed. Assists in the development and formulation of District policy as it relates to Special Education. Liaison for coordinating services for students in county programs and articulation of status of student services. Assists in coordinating new programs and services for special needs students. Assists in keeping Site and District Administrators informed of available District, State, Federal and community resources for Special Education as required. Assists in keeping Site and District Administrators informed of legal requirements relating to Special Education. Assists in monitoring student placement procedures for District Special Education Programs. Coordinates the adoption of course of study outcomes as to materials, instruction strategies for differing handicapping condition as required. Coordinator of Special Education Page 2 of 2 Assists in coordinating staffing with Human Resources and Business Departments as directed. Assists in due process, mediations, hearings and SEHO complaints procedures. Assists in monitoring IEPS for compliance with state and federal mandates. Assists in coordinating and conducting staff development Programs of exemplary instructional methods and strategies appropriate to Special Education students in main streamed environments as directed. Performs such other duties and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Director of Special Education.
CREDENTIAL:
Valid California Administrative Credential; General, Standard, or Ryan Administrative or Supervision Credential authorizing service in the areas of Pupil Personnel Services (K-12); Special Education Credential is desirable. EDUCATION: Masters degree is desirable. EXPERIENCE: SUPERVISION: Three years of teaching experience preferably at the K-6 and 7-12 levels. Administrative experience at Site or District level desirable. Accountable to the Director of Special Education.
