NV5 is seeking a Staff Geologist to join our dynamic team, supporting a variety of infrastructure projects. In this role, you will work under the direction of a Senior Geologist, contributing to the design, analysis, and implementation of multi-disciplinary engineering solutions. You'll have the opportunity to collaborate with professionals from civil, structural, and environmental engineering fields, gaining hands-on experience in project planning, technical assessments, and problem-solving. As a Staff Geologist, you'll develop your skills in a supportive, team-oriented environment while contributing to the successful delivery of high-quality, sustainable projects.
Responsibilities
  • Contributes to environmental and engineering geological studies, evaluations, modeling, assessments, and investigations for specific projects under the direction of the supervising geologist
    • Specifically surface and ground water, geotechnical soil investigations, field mapping and drilling.
  • Prepares work plans, interprets data and test results, contributes to technical reports and may be responsible for other project components under the direction of the supervising geologist.
  • Prepares and reviews inspection and observation reports prepared by special inspectors and engineering technicians under supervision from supervising engineer or construction services manager prior to submitting to various agencies and other clients.
  • Performs field investigations and coordinates laboratory testing programs under direction of supervising engineer or geologist.
  • Prepares project documentation, including reports and related documents for supervising engineer or geologist review.
  • Reviews field testing and observation practices and work products.

Qualifications
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geology or Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering
  • Geologist In Training (GIT) a plus

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to accurately report observations and test results through clear, concise verbal and written communications.
  • AutoCAD and GIS experience a plus
  • Knowledge of current regulatory requirements and industry standards for the types of projects performed.
  • Effective interpersonal communications with clients, contractors, and colleagues.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and appropriate application of testing methodologies and related equipment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including teamwork and problem-solving skills
  • Must have valid driver's license and an insurable driving record.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with multi-disciplinary projects to various contractors and clients.

Physical and Environmental Factors:
  • Occasional ability to lift, carry, push and/or pull objects and materials up to 50 pounds.
  • Able to perform general office administrative activities: copying, filing, and frequent use of telephone and keyboard to communicate.
  • Able to sit and work at a computer keyboard for extended periods of time.
  • Intermittently walk, stand, kneel, bend, reach and stoop.
  • May be required to work outside normal business hours.
  • Frequent travel may be required, including some out-of-town assignments.

The pay range for this California position is $30.00/hr-45.00/hr per hour; however, base pay offered may be higher or lower depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience of the candidate. Restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
