Pay Information:

External Hires: Step placement and rate of pay will be determined based on relevant experience.

Job Summary:
Cook 1: The Cook 1 is responsible for preparing and serving high-quality hot and cold meals for patients and residents requiring therapeutic diets, cafeteria customers, and catered events. This position ensures compliance with all food safety, sanitation, and dietary standards while maintaining quality, consistency, and customer service excellence. The Cook 1 supports the efficient operation of the Food and Nutrition Services Department by assisting with meal production, proper food handling, inventory control, and teamwork to meet the nutritional needs of those served.
Cook 2: The Cook 2 position serves as a leader within the Dietary Department, coordinating daily kitchen operations and ensuring high standards of food preparation, sanitation, customer service, and staff performance. This role is responsible for preparing and serving hot and cold meals for patients and residents on therapeutic diets, cafeteria patrons, and catered events while maintaining compliance with dietary guidelines, food safety regulations, and departmental policies. The Cook 2 provides guidance and support to kitchen staff, assists with problem-solving and workflow coordination, and helps ensure efficient daily operations. This position serves as a resource for dietary-related questions and assists in training and mentoring staff. In the absence of the Dietary Supervisor or Director, the Cook 2 acts as the departmental leader, making operational decisions, addressing concerns, and ensuring continued adherence to quality, safety, and service standards. Additionally, the Cook 2 supports department leadership in implementing policies, monitoring compliance with sanitation and safety requirements, maintaining production and quality standards, and fostering a positive, team-oriented work environment. The position plays a critical role in ensuring that patients, residents, customers, and guests receive safe, nutritious, and high-quality food service.
Minimum Qualifications for the position:
Cook 1:
  • Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Experience: One (1) year of experience as a cook, in an institutional setting preferred
  • License(s) Required: None
  • Certification(s) Required:Must obtain a State of Alaska Food Workers Card or Serve Safe within 30 days of hire.

Cook 2:
  • Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Experience: Three (3) year of experience as a cook, in an institutional setting preferred
    • Substitution: One (1) year experience as a Cook 1
  • License(s) Required: None
  • Certification(s) Required:
    • Must obtain a State of Alaska Food Workers Card or Serve Safe within 30 days of hire.
    • Must obtain Certified Food Protection Manager within six (6) months of hire.
