Job Summary:
The Museum Aide- Museum Interpreter is a part time, seasonal position working approximately 20 hours per week through December 2026. The interpreter's primary function is to research, write, conduct, and support a wide range of interpretive programs including, but not limited to historic skill workshops, site tours, school field trips, special events, and similar. Additional duties will include visitor services roles such as admission and gift shop sales, light cleaning, gardening, and special project work as assigned. This position reports to the Curator of Education.
Typical schedule for this position would similar to the below example with some variation based on needs of school groups, special events, rentals, and similar.

• Tuesday-Friday 8:30am-4:00pm, occasional Saturday or Sunday

Experience, Knowledge, Skills:
Minimum Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
• The ideal candidate is personable, reliable, detail-oriented, and passionate about history and community engagement.
• At least six (6) months of experience in customer service, retail, or front desk operations.

OR

• Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job,

AND

• Possession of a valid driver's license.

Preferred:

• Certified Interpretive Guide Training desired.

• Knowledge of and interest in Greeley, Weld County, and Colorado history.
• Knowledge of or interest in historic skillsets ranging from skills such as fibercraft, historic cooking, blacksmithing, printing, and/or similar others.
• Experience working with audiences from children to seniors in informal or formal learning environments.
• Experience in third-person interpretation techniques.
• Computer skills, including the ability to utilize Microsoft Office programs (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.) and learn and experiment with new software and systems.
• Interpersonal skills, including the ability to facilitate interaction, communication, and teamwork between others.
• Oral, written, and listening communication skills, including the ability to accurately interpret what others are saying and convey messages, information, concepts, and details accurately and clearly.
• Ability to present oneself professionally in appearance, demeanor, and effort.

Travel:

• Category A-Standard Local Travel: This position requires occasional local travel within the County. Employees may be expected to walk or drive short distances to attend meetings, trainings, or perform work at other city buildings or partner sites.

Essential Functions:

• Greets and assists museum visitors, answers general questions, and provides exhibit information.
• Serves as lobby receptionist, answers the main telephone line, and assists the public with questions.
• Operates point-of-sale systems and handles admissions or gift shop transactions.
• Performs daily cash counts for deposit.
• Monitors museum galleries to ensure the safety and security of exhibits and guests.
• Assists with setting up and taking down exhibits and event materials.
• Supports educational programs, tours, and special events.
• Cleans and sanitizes high-traffic areas on a rotating basis.
• Unlocks and locks the museum and turns gallery exhibit lights on and off daily.
• Conducts primary and secondary source research as required for the creation of programs, workshops, special projects, and other areas as assigned.
• Conducts a variety of formal and informal interpretive programs such as tours, workshops, and school programs for diverse audiences both at City of Greeley Museum Sites and at external locations such as schools, fairs, and similar.
• Safely learns and demonstrates historic skills such as cooking, fiber arts, blacksmithing, woodworking, printing, and similar skills to a variety of audiences.
• Assists in the creation of interpretive media such as social media posts, videos, and related projects as assigned.
• Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

• Indoor, climate-controlled museum setting.
• Primarily seated/standing at desk.
• May be required to move, bend, twist, and stoop in performance of job duties.
• May require weekend, evening, or holiday shifts depending on museum hours or special events.
• Frequent and heavy interaction with museum visitors.
• Work is primarily performed on an outdoor 8-acre site where weather conditions can vary.
• Must be comfortable working in historical clothing.
• Must be able to work holidays, weekends, and occasional evenings as required.
• Vision enough to preform job duties.
• Hearing and speech enough to effectively communicate with site visitors in person and answering telephone calls.
• Visual and auditory ability to interact with visitors and observe surroundings.
• May be required to move, bend, twist, and stoop in performance of job duties.
• Ability to lift and move up to 40 pounds unassisted.
• Stamina sufficient to stand and walk for long periods of time.
