Job description

Position Summary: 

The direct support professional is responsible for the daily support and oversight of clients living in the Intensive Residential Support Home. The DSP provides care for individuals living with disabilities and/or mental health illness by providing support and assisting with daily activities in their homes. This will include working on identified goals such as meal cooking and preparation, personal cares, promoting community involvement, social skills etc. The DSP will be responsible for administering medications during the shift needed. The home operates 24 hours a day. DSP’s will be scheduled over all shifts to ensure coverage.

Shift: 2nd shift Monday - Friday 4PM -12 AM

Job Description

  • Responsible for treating all clients with dignity, respect, and value.

  • Responsible for the health, safety, protective supervision, and wellbeing of clients on your shift when working in the home.

  • Responsible to immediately report any allegations of client abuse to the Program Manager.

  • Responsible to complete all required trainings and orientations within the period specified by the Program Manager.

  • Responsible to complete all required documentation on your shift before going home, including, but not limited to, service documentation, data sheets, incident reports, and medication administration records.

  • Responsible to provide support to clients with implementation of their personal goals and objectives.

  • Responsible to provide supervision and assistance to clients with informal supports they may need help with, including but not limited to, cooking, cleaning, laundry, planning meals, shopping, and personal hygiene.

  • Responsible to assist clients with activities of daily living/personal hygiene that they absolutely are unable to do for themselves.

  • If certified to administer medications, you are responsible for the timely safe administration and documentation of medications in the MAR.

  • Responsible to maintain the confidentiality and privacy of client information.

  • Responsible to implement client behavior intervention plans when their problem behavior warrants.

  • Promptly report any unsafe conditions in the home to the Program Manager.

  • Reports changes in client’s condition or family situation to the Program Manager.

  • Accompanies clients to scheduled appointments and transports clients or running errands with or for clients.

  • Other reasonable duties as requested by the Program Manager.

N/B: Will need to secure CPI/Mandt Training, Medication Manager training

Qualifications

  • At least a high school education or equivalent

  • Must have a valid drivers license

  • Medication manager or certified medication aide preferred (will be required to be trained in medication manager)

  • Experience supporting individuals who experience problem behaviors preferred.
