Summary:
This position properly cleans, tins, and babbitt ferrous and non-ferrous materials in a wide variety of sizes of bearings. This includes cleaning and preparing bearings and components for babbitting process such as spinning, TIG, and puddling. This position must have the ability to perform the following:
Responsibilities:
  • Works from routings, drawings, process sheets, setup sheets, and verbal instructions.
  • Follows babbitting standard operating procedures (SOP) that may include cleaning and acid washing of components, dipping or coating components in molten tin, adding babbitt to components utilizing a spinning method, and/or static pouring of babbitt onto components.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area to 5S standards.
  • Perform work assignments in a safe manner. Employees must wear protective eye wear either tight fitting chemical goggles or face shields and insulated gloves.
  • Fill out in-process inspection reports, as required.
  • Notify supervisor of damaged material and/or any discrepancies
  • Disassembles bearings, as required.
  • Determines areas that need to be repaired.
  • Inspects own work making sure tolerances and finishes are as prescribed.
  • Reassembles bearings, as required.

Minimum required qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 5-10 years of related experience
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job.
  • Ability to set-up manual machines

The ideal candidate possesses the following experience, skills, and abilities:
  • Experience machining finish-grade components to tight tolerances
  • TIG and/or welding experience
  • Experience with ultrasonic testing and dye penetrate testing
  • General bearing knowledge
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
  • Ability to review blueprints or other instructions to determine operational methods or sequences.
