Job description

The Maintenance Tech is responsible for troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing complex mechanical and electrical issues within conveyor systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Requirements:
  • Ensures that the system meets all the client's specifications and standards along with all applicable local, state, and national codes.
  • Evaluates current material handling processes and considers innovation in technology, material, methods, and controls software as an integral component of the system design.
  • Influences the conceptual configuration of major equipment and controls elements of the project based on the layout of the space identified by the Client for the system through critical analysis making sure the system meets the form, fit and function of the contract/specification requirements.
  • Develops general arrangement drawing(s) of the system and prepares the preliminary manifest as input to the cost estimate process.Assists the Estimator to establish costs and timelines for the project in the Proposal phase.
  • Provides support to the Engineering team during subsequent phases of the project as required to ensure the integrity of the system is maintained.
  • Anticipates installation, testing, and debugging phases of critical projects as required.
  • Provides concrete, well-thought-out plans that can be moved into Engineering once the order is won without issue.
  • Collaborates with clients, engineers, and other staff to understand the specified material and the conveyance, transport, or other handling needs.
  • Evaluates current technology used in the material handling process, considering innovations in material and methods to provide the best solution to DCI's Clients.
  • Recommends improvements to ensure the most innovative, efficient, and cost-effective material handling solutions within the schedule constraints of the project.
  • Defines testing and acceptance steps and ensures the system agrees with customer requirements and applicable regulatory rules.
  • Drafts sketches, examples, and written analysis of proposed designs or improvements to handling system, packaging, and other related elements.
  • If/when required, supports the installation, testing, and debugging phases of projects.
  • Drafts (or assists with drafting) relevant technical documentation, specifications, and lists.
  • Actively manage the risk of the project regarding the overall design and implementation both identifying and mitigating.
  • 3+ years in the conveyor/material handling industry is preferred
  • Strong diverse knowledge and expertise of material handling equipment from both a mechanical aspect as well as controls and software.
  • Exposure to structural design and electrical system design is a plus.
  • A general level of understanding of common building support systems (i.e., egress and safety systems)
  • Knowledge of the applicable codes, standards and specifications used in material handling systems as recognized by the industry.
  • Understands testing and acceptance methods and rationale, and able to influence both and implement within the system design.

  • The ability to conceptualize creative system designs and implementation strategies that will give DCI a distinct advantage over our competitors in the market regarding both cost and technology.
  • Must recognize that individual Clients may have their own specifications and stay up to date with any changes.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to make significant presentations to DCI Senior Management and Clients as needed.
  • Must have the ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and problem-solve, both individually and on a team.
  • Must have the ability to estimate lifecycle cost of material handling systems to provide the best long-term solution to DCI's Clients.
  • Strong management/leadership skills and ability/willingness to sponsor growth initiatives and change.
  • The individual must possess the combination of intellectual capacity, appropriate academic background, and substantial depth of practical experience.
  • Collaborative and caring leader that is self-confident but with low ego.
