Job description


JOB TITLE: Convenience Store Manager
Division/Department: Fond du Lac Gas & Grocery - Administration
Location: Fond du Lac Gas & Grocery - Onsite
Reports To: Tribal Enterprises Executive Director
Probationary Period: 6 months
FLSA Status: Exempt (salaried)
Classification: Child-Related CA
Driver's License: Level 0-No Driver's License Required.
Rate of Pay: $56,063.84 - $63,071.82
Responsibilities
  • Supervises staff in the department and other staff if located off-site, when necessary. This includes completing their annual appraisals, approving leave time, monitoring their work product, ensuring proper coverage of duties when they are on leave, training for their duties, and any disciplinary action necessary.
  • Established operational goals, policies, and procedures.
  • Trains staff in proper store procedures including customer service, money handling, and theft prevention.
  • Perform inventories as scheduled; take counts of sale, reduced, damaged and discounted merchandise; note markdown of merchandise and dispose of merchandise according to proper procedures.
  • Receive deliveries according to established procedures; verify quantities and items received against packing slips, invoices, and purchase orders; ensure merchandise received is in good condition.
  • Ensure that Convenience Store is adequately stocked with merchandise; order stock merchandise from vendors in sufficient quantity to meet customer demand; assist in ordering new and sale merchandise based on market trends, research, customer preferences, and favorable vendor terms.
  • Develops displays, promotions, advertising.
  • Inventory control, receiving, inspecting, and stocking methods and procedures.
  • Develops and implements staffing schedules.
  • Develops reports.
  • Responds to customer complaints/problems.
  • Develops and recommends budget to supervisor and Reservation Business Committee.
  • Monitors shoplifting problems and provides input in resolving security problems.
  • Recommends pricing structure to maintain appropriate profit margin; evaluates and recommends pricing methods for increasing over-the-counter sales.
  • May work as the convenience store clerk.
  • Appropriate work attire is required.
  • Must attend all mandatory department trainings.
  • Ensures confidentiality of financial records and all records for employees and/or clients.
  • Displays a responsive and professional manner in promptly responding to all requests, complaints, and problems.
  • Recognizes that each employee is a representative of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and is responsible for demonstrating courtesy, respect, and sensitivity to the needs of all others, including visitors and co-workers.
  • Represents the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and the department in a positive and professional manner in the community.
  • Required to maintain proper attendance including reporting to work on time in accordance with applicable policies.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area.
  • Due to changes and modifications in the job from time to time, employees are required to be flexible and assume other responsibilities assigned by management as deemed necessary.

Qualifications
  • No Driver's License Required.
  • AAS/AA Degree in Business or Management; 5 years administrative experience; or a combination of education and experience is required.
  • Must have thorough of knowledge of office practices and procedures.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision and determine proper course of action.
  • 2 years' experience in retail sales is required.
  • Knowledge of retail merchandising methods is preferred.
  • Knowledge of theft prevention is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in record keeping procedures is preferred.
  • Merchandise supply experience is required.
  • Knowledge of bookkeeping procedures is preferred
  • Knowledge of computer applications to include word processing, Access, Excel, and Microsoft Outlook is required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing is required.
  • Ability to work independently and establish priorities is required.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy is required.
  • Ability to establish professional and harmonious working relationships on all projects and with all parties involved.
  • Subject to drug and alcohol testing in accordance with the Fond du Lac Reservation's Personnel Policies.
  • Subject to pre-employment and annual background checks.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • All employees shall thoroughly wash hands and arms with soap and water before starting work and wash hands during work hours as often as may be required to remove soil and contamination as well as after visiting the washroom.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds is required.
  • Walking, standing, bending, stooping, climbing, pushing, pulling are required.
  • Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, including work in adverse weather conditions.
