Traveling Superintendent – Ground-Up Fuel & Convenience Store Construction (Southeast)

Lead field execution for ground-up fuel station and convenience store (C-Store) construction projects across the Southeastern United States. Ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to uncompromising quality standards. Oversee subcontractors, field crews, and site logistics from initial mobilization through final turnover, maintaining a strong focus on production efficiency, safety compliance, and client satisfaction.

About the Company

An established, third-generation, family-owned commercial General Contractor with over half a century of successful project delivery. Deeply rooted in a culture of integrity, safety, and mutual trust, the company is widely recognized for its employee loyalty, organizational stability, and long-term client relationships. Their diverse commercial portfolio features prominent national brands and includes ground-up convenience stores, fuel stations, major grocery chains, large-scale self-storage facilities, and quick-service restaurants. They offer a highly collaborative environment focused on operational excellence, robust project management support, and consistent career development.

What You'll Do

  • Lead day-to-day field operations for ground-up fuel station and convenience store projects from initial groundbreaking through final structural closeout.
  • Direct and schedule all on-site subcontractors, vendors, and field personnel to maintain optimal production momentum and construction sequencing.
  • Coordinate specialized petroleum construction scopes, including underground storage tanks (UST), fuel piping networks, structural canopies, dispenser islands, and electronic monitoring systems.
  • Manage site logistics, material deliveries, equipment tracking, and daily work plans to consistently hit critical project milestone dates.
  • Collaborate closely with Project Managers, engineers, inspectors, architects, and corporate client representatives to resolve field challenges and ensure full compliance with contract plans and specifications.
  • Enforce a strict safety culture on-site, ensuring 100% compliance with OSHA regulations, environmental requirements, and company-wide safety policies.
  • Monitor productivity and cost controls, accurately reporting daily progress and proactively flagging potential schedule impacts or scope changes to project management.
  • Oversee successful project handoffs, including final municipal inspections, punch list execution, and certificate of occupancy procurement.

What We're Looking For

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience as a Lead Construction Superintendent focusing specifically on ground-up fuel/gas station and modern convenience store builds.
  • Proven track record of successfully taking multiple ground-up petroleum/C-store projects from raw excavation through final turnover.
  • Shell-branded project experience is highly preferred (experience with major corporate fuel brands is a strong plus).
  • Strong technical fluency in civil site work, utilities, canopy structures, fuel system integration, and commercial retail building finishes.
  • Exceptional field leadership and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to manage large subcontractor teams and maintain positive schedule pressure.
  • Solid familiarity with safety regulations, with OSHA 10 or 30-Hour certification highly preferred.
  • 100% willingness to travel extensively throughout the Southeastern United States on a project-by-project basis.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Pay & Benefits

  • Highly competitive base salary commensurate with industry experience.
  • Performance-based project bonus opportunities.
  • Comprehensive travel allowance package, including daily food per diem, lodging allowances, and a company vehicle/truck allowance or gas card.
  • 401(k) retirement plan options with company matching.
  • Full medical, dental, vision, and life insurance benefits.
  • Paid time off (PTO) and company-observed holidays.

Work Environment

  • 100% travel required. Work is performed entirely on-site at active commercial construction locations throughout the Southeastern region.
  • Primary project focus centers on ground-up fuel and convenience destinations, with additional opportunities to support the company's extensive retail, grocery, and self-storage programs.
