Job description

Overview:
Tamarack Industries, a leader in mobile flameless heating and glycol heating systems, is growing and seeking a Diesel Mechanic / Mechanical Service Technician to join our team.
In this role, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining Fiat, Deutz, CAT, Kubota, and other diesel engines, as well as equipment manufactured by Tamarack Industries. The successful candidate will perform repairs both in our shop and at customer locations, prepare diagnostic reports and repair quotations, and provide exceptional technical support to customers.

Key Responsibilities:

Customer Support & Technical Assistance
  • Serve as a primary technical contact for customers, providing exceptional support both remotely and on-site.
  • Diagnose and repair diesel engines, wiring harnesses, generators, pumps, and related equipment.
  • Provide phone-based troubleshooting and technical guidance to customers.
Field Service & Equipment Repair
  • Travel to customer locations to diagnose, repair, and maintain equipment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and recommend solutions to improve equipment performance and reliability.
  • Complete service work efficiently while maintaining high quality standards.
Training & Product Support
  • Conduct customer training on equipment operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Participate in technical training provided by engine and component suppliers.
  • Utilize manufacturer diagnostic software and tools to identify and resolve equipment issues.
Assembly & Production Support
  • Assist with equipment assembly, quality control inspections, and product testing.
  • Provide feedback to engineering and production teams based on field experience.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives for products and processes.
Other duties as assigned.
Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform diagnostic testing to identify mechanical and electrical issues.
  • Complete preventative maintenance, repairs, and equipment inspections.
  • Develop and follow testing procedures for troubleshooting and diagnostics.
  • Create solutions for complex technical problems.
  • Assist with the installation and testing of units and systems.
  • Support engineering and production teams in the development, modification, and testing of products.
  • Inspect products and manufacturing processes to identify defects and opportunities for improvement.
  • Conduct testing and collect performance data.
  • Assist in product design, development, and production activities.
  • Ensure manufactured products meet quality standards and customer specifications.
  • Help ensure compliance with applicable industry standards and codes.
  • Accurately record labour hours, parts usage, and repair details.
  • Prepare detailed service and diagnostic reports.
  • Monitor gauges, controls, and indicators to verify proper equipment operation.
  • Follow established safety procedures and contribute to a safe work environment.

Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Diesel Technology Diploma, Heavy Equipment Technician Diploma, or equivalent technical training an asset.
  • 2-6 years of experience as a diesel mechanic, heavy-duty mechanic, or related role.
  • Manufacturer training or certifications on Deutz, CAT, Kubota, Fiat, Cummins, or similar diesel engines considered an asset
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines and related systems.
  • Experience diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel-powered equipment.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Experience using diagnostic software and electronic diagnostic tools.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency with hand and power tools.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness and ability to travel frequently to customer sites.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel throughout Canada and the United States.
