Job description

About the Company:

Peak Energy is the first American venture to advance globally proven Sodium-Ion battery systems as the storage standard for the new era of renewable energy on a resilient grid.

Sodium-Ion is cheap, readily available and safe, making it the leading contender in a rapidly evolving market.

Our leadership team is powered by decades of expertise in scaling gigawatt-level innovation at world-class companies such as Tesla, Northvolt, SunPower, Fluence, and Enovix. We are backed by strategic investment and product partners such as TDK Ventures and Eclipse Ventures.

We are a team of engineers, operators, entrepreneurs, and partners driven by a shared ambition to set the new performance standard for renewable energy and grid resilience.

About the Job:

Peak Energy is looking for a Facilities Engineer to join our team and execute tasks within and around  our Burlingame, CA facility supporting the physical plant, infrastructure, and overall company goals. This role will report to the Manager of Facilities, and the primary hours of operation will focus on supporting day to day prototype development activities.

In addition to supporting the Burlingame site, this individual will play a key role in supporting the build out, expansion, and operational readiness of Peak Energy's future manufacturing facility in Sacramento. This is an exciting opportunity to help establish and scale facility operations in a fast paced, high growth manufacturing environment.

As a Facilities Engineer, you will leverage your advanced background in the trades or an engineering discipline to execute tasks that make your fellow colleagues work effort safer, easier, and generally more effective.  This position will own the Peak Energy Burlingame Facility site maintenance, utilities (electrical, compressed air, HVAC and exhaust, specialty gases, fire protection systems), and building envelope and architectural components (doors, roof, exterior grounds, office and kitchen FFE).

You will also act as primary site contact for external regulatory or AHJ inspections as well as support daily site operational activities including receiving and movement/handling of inbound materials, onsite hosting/support of process equipment vendor specialists, championing all safety regulations and a robust onsite safety culture, and general effectiveness of building operations.

You will execute building upgrade projects including utility upgrade/relocation for operations equipment installation, maintenance of site standards for the office, manufacturing, or facility exterior, and scheduled replacement for aged infrastructure obsolescence.

Core Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot facility electrical systems: branch circuits, feeders, panelboards, disconnects, motor controls
  • Read and work from single-line diagrams, panel schedules, and electrical drawings
  • Perform wiring per NEC requirements - conductor sizing, conduit fill, grounding/bonding, overcurrent protection
  • Follow NFPA 70E procedures for electrical safety - lockout/tagout, PPE selection, arc flash awareness
  • Support mechanical systems: HVAC, compressed air, process piping, pumps
  • Respond to facility work orders and equipment breakdowns; diagnose root cause and execute repairs
  • Coordinate with contractors and electricians on TI work, tie-ins, and inspections
  • Maintain facility documentation: as-builts, PM schedules, equipment logs
  • Support facility inspections (AHJ, fire marshal, utility) as needed
  • Travel to Sacramento as needed (estimated 20-30%) to support manufacturing facility MEP needs, equipment installs, and commissioning activities

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years hands-on electrical/MEP experience in an industrial, manufacturing, or facilities environment (Certifications a plus)
  • Working knowledge of NFPA 70E (arc flash, LOTO, PPE) (Certifications a plus)
  • Working knowledge of NEC (wiring methods, conductor/conduit sizing, grounding)
  • Comfortable reading electrical schematics, one-lines, and panel schedules
  • Experience with hand tools, meters (multimeter, megohmmeter), and basic troubleshooting equipment
  • Ability to work at heights, in tight spaces, and around energized equipment following safety protocol
  • Ability to demonstrate the above skills/knowledge
  • Valid driver's license

Nice to Have - Engineering Technician Experience

  • New Product Introduction (NPI) support - pilot line builds, first-article troubleshooting, engineering change implementation
  • Mechanical/electrical assembly experience - wire harnessing, torque specs, fastener standards, ESD-sensitive handling
  • Manufacturing equipment operation and maintenance - PM execution on production equipment, changeovers, basic controls troubleshooting (PLC/HMI exposure a plus)
  • Experience supporting engineering teams through prototype-to-production transitions

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this role is $140,000 - $160,000, with actual pay varying based on work location, experience, and skills. Our competitive benefits package includes:

  • Flexible time off
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Strong 401(k) plan
