Sorenson Engineering is seeking a candidate with experience in manufacturing engineering, with CAD CAM development, CNC Programming, and training experience.

Summary:

Responsible for planning, developing, designing, reviewing, and validating new machine designs and process improvements/optimizations. Evaluates and continuously improves active production processes and equipment.

Responsible for providing technical knowledge and support for production operations. Collaborates with organizational leaders and customers.

Level I-Provides engineering support and expertise for production operations across the entire facility. Using established principles, develops engineered solutions and assists in improving processes. Becomes familiar with development tools, Sorenson Engineering (SEi) processes, and manufacturing standards.

Level II-In addition to Level I responsibilities, executes engineering projects as a team member with clear direction from senior engineers and senior management. Analyzes processes and provide metrics supporting process improvements and new designs. Has a strong understanding of the various SEi processes and manufacturing standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops manufacturing processes by analyzing product requirements, researching, testing, implementing, and improving manufacturing methods.
    Provides engineering support to Manufacturing, including day-to-day problem solving of process deficiencies and product defects as well as updating process documentation. Investigates, collaborates, and diagnoses to resolve production problems.
    Evaluates and improves manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of product requirements, material types, part features, machining processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality standards.
    Develops and improves methods for inspection and measurement, including Quality Plans for in-process and final inspection.
    Assures product and process quality by designing inspection methods and fixturing, testing process capabilities, establishing standards, and confirming manufacturing processes.
    Familiar with chemical and physical properties of metals, including machinability, and how chemical and physical processes effect part features, i.e., dimensions, tolerances, and finishes.
    Confers with planning and engineering staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods.

Knowledge and Abilities:

Demonstrates proficiency with PLCs, HMIs and debugging mechatronic systems

Exposure to programming logic controllers and microcontrollers - Beckhoff controls and IEC-61131-3 structured text language preferred. Other equipment includes Automation Direct, Schneider, Siemens and Raspberry Pi

Comfortable with object-oriented programming. Exposure to ladder logic programming.

Able to work under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines

Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

Ability to communicate with machine technicians and debug on the shop floor, communicating technical information effectively in English.

Well organized with meticulous attention to detail

Experience with C#, C++ or Python

Comfortable with electrical cabinets and testing live components with a multimeter

Familiarity with basic IPV4 networking and addressing.

Experience with electrical diagramming software (EPLAN) preferred.

Able to work in a team environment to solve technical issues.

Education and Experience:

Levels I, II & IV require bachelor's degree in engineering. Minimum 2 years' experience in a manufacturing environment preferred. Level III requires minimum of 10 years of appropriate technical experience with Sorenson Engineering.

Physical Demands:

Must be able to periodically walk and or travel to other areas of the plant, occasionally lift up to 50 pounds with help, must have good eyesight and hand dexterity, and able to identify and distinguish colors.

Work Environment:

Within safety guidelines, there will be exposed to noise, moving mechanical parts, oils/solvents, fumes, and odors that may affect the eyes, ears, nose, throat and/or skin.

In accordance with California law, the salary range for this position reflects a good faith estimate of the base compensation. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
