Job description

Shape the Current That Moves the Fleet

Step onto the Everett waterfront and into an environment built for craft and growth. Founded in 2019, Everett Ship Repair (ESR) has quickly become a premier Pacific Northwest yard for repair, maintenance, and conversions across commercial vessels—especially workboats and passenger ferries. With substantial dry-dock capacity and the U.S. Navy next door, we are expanding our capabilities and reputation by turning complex work into reliable, repeatable processes. If you value learning, teamwork, and continuous improvement, you’ll fit right in.

A Day in the Life

Morning begins with a walk-through on a medium-sized passenger vessel. You review drawings and schematics, plan cable tray routes, and stage materials. Before lunch, you’ve pulled new conductors, mounted controllers, and verified continuity on several circuits. The afternoon is hands-on testing: troubleshooting a 480V three-phase motor issue on a bow thruster, validating electrohydraulic steering controls, and documenting results to keep the schedule on track. You wrap by coordinating with fellow trades to set tomorrow’s priorities.

What You’ll Work On
  • Interpret electrical drawings, blueprints, schematics, and code requirements to plan system layouts and installations.
  • Install shipboard wiring, receptacles, switch boxes, feeders, coax assemblies, lighting, and related components.
  • Lay out wireways, set cable trays, and establish initial hanger locations.
  • Test equipment and components for continuity, current, voltage, and resistance.
  • Service and install motors, generators, industrial storage batteries, and electrical controls for hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Maintain and repair electrical controls tied to main propulsion units.
  • Install, service, and test electrohydraulic steering control systems.
  • As needed, install and calibrate industrial instrumentation and associated devices.
  • Apply sound principles and best practices for marine electrical and electromechanical systems to diagnose and correct faults.
  • Complete electrical fitting tasks: stud runs, cableways, controller mounts, and hardware associated with marine electrical equipment.
  • Work confidently with 480V three-phase systems.
  • Collaborate with a multi-trade team—adapt quickly, interpret issues, and solve problems.
  • Take on additional related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Proven ability to read specifications and understand drawings/blueprints, contract requirements, and schedule constraints.
  • Knowledge of shipyard safety practices, vessel terminology, and operation of scissor and boom lifts.
  • Comfort working in confined spaces and in indoor/outdoor settings with changing weather.
  • Competent with basic math.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3+ years as a General Maintenance Worker or similar, with hands-on marine electrical maintenance and repair experience.
  • 2–3 years working on electrical systems.
  • Valid Washington State driver’s license.
What Sets You Apart
  • Direct Marine Electrician experience.
  • WA 01 Journeyman Electrical Card with industrial background.
  • Familiarity with applicable NAVSEA Standard Items.
  • OSHA 10 certification.
  • NFPA 70E training.
  • Understanding of IEEE 45 and applicable CFR requirements for electrical installations.
  • Forklift and manlift certifications with practical experience.
  • Interest and aptitude for future crew leadership.
Proficiencies
  • Electrical schematics and schematic reading
  • 120/208/240/480 V systems
  • Electrical installation, troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repair
  • Electrical/electronic systems, including heavy equipment systems diagnostics
  • IEEE 45 and NFPA 70E
Benefits
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Health Savings Account
  • Group life insurance with optional supplemental life and disability
  • Paid time off and 9 paid holidays
  • Employee Assistance Program
  • Culture of learning with state-certified apprenticeship programs
