Job description

Journeyman Machinist
Jagemann's precision tool room is hiring a Journeyman Machinist to operate advanced machining equipment on critical tooling components. You'll work in a temperature-controlled environment using precision measuring equipment to verify dimensional accuracy while managing machining parameters to maintain surface finish specifications.
What You'll Do
Core Machining Operations:
  • Set up and operate manual and precision grinding machines to process parts per specifications
  • Plan work sequences and determine cutting parameters (feeds, speeds, depths)
  • Work to close tolerances using precision measuring instruments

Programming & Setup:
  • Write and edit CNC programs
  • Calculate dimensional relationships and input data to machine controllers
  • Develop custom holding fixtures and soft jaws for non-standard parts

Tool & Equipment Management:
  • Select appropriate cutting tools and manage tool inventory
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on CNC equipment
  • Sharpen non-insert tools as needed

Material Expertise:
  • Machine hardened steels, carbide, and other specialty materials
  • Adjust speeds, feeds, and tooling based on material characteristics

Training & Support:
  • Mentor CNC operators and apprentices
  • Provide troubleshooting guidance and occasional multi-machine oversight

Maintenance & Safety:
  • Keep work areas clean and organized
  • Follow all EHS procedures and collaborate with vendors on tooling needs
What We're Looking For
  • High school diploma plus machining or metalworking training
  • Mazak programming certification
  • Partial completion of company-specified Machine Tool Operation curriculum
  • CAD/CAM and Solutionware training
  • 1-3 years of toolroom and CNC machining experience
  • Proficiency in CNC setup and operation
  • Strong knowledge of material machining characteristics
  • Attention to detail and ability to hold close tolerances
  • Familiarity with Environmental Health & Safety procedures
