Job description

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to join the Uhrig group of companies comprised of three separate entities including a general construction company, a residential and commercial painting company and an industrial painting company.  Reporting to the Controller, this position plays a critical role in managing project accounting, financial reporting, job costing, and compliance while supporting the financial success of our construction/painting projects. This is an exempt, full-time in-office position located at 1700 North 5th Street, Reading PA. Our hours of operation are Monday-Thursday 7:00am to 4:30pm and Friday 7:00am to 4:00pm.


Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee project accounting, including job costs, revenue recognition, invoices, and cash disbursements.
  • Prepare monthly Job Cost Analysis and Work-in-Progress (WIP) reports for executive leadership.
  • Manage project billings, including AIA billing, change orders, and contract documentation.
  • Prepare invoice packages and ensure compliance with contractor prequalification requirements.
  • Track fixed assets, inventory, and depreciation.
  • Assist with financial reporting, tax filings, and internal controls.
  • Analyze financial data, identify opportunities for process improvements, and support strategic initiatives.
  • Collaborate with project managers, leadership, clients, and subcontractors to ensure accurate financial reporting.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, or Finance required.
  • 6–10 years of accounting experience; construction accounting experience preferred.
  • CPA and/or MBA preferred but not required.
  • Experience with job cost accounting, WIP reporting, and AIA billing is highly desirable.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with ComputerEase or other related construction industry accounting software and Microsoft 365.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and maintain confidentiality.
