Job Summary

Under the direction of the CFO, the Controller manages timely and accurate delivery of financial information and reporting. Responsibilities include managing the general ledger, month-end and year-end close, financial reporting of all Cakebread family entities, completing analysis, and providing guidance, development and support to direct reports.

What we will ask you to do
  • Ensures timely, accurate month-end close for the following entities: Cakebread Cellars and all related party vineyard entities.
  • Prepare and/or review journal entries, account reconciliations, and other supporting schedules to ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial records.
  • Lead the development and execution of financial, accounting and treasury internal controls and ensure that reported results are in compliance with reporting standards. Includes management of annual financial statement audit and tax return preparation.
  • Support tax planning and compliance activities, including consolidating taxable income forecasts, coordinating tax distributions, dividend payments, and shareholder distributions, and providing information and analyses required for tax return preparation.
  • Provides direction, leadership, and management. Providing necessary support/tools to staff in order to assist them in developing, implementing, and executing all events/activities with a high degree of quality.
  • Ensures staff functions as a mutually supportive team with positive morale and high job satisfaction, fostering an atmosphere that encourages group and individual development.
  • Drives process improvements.
What you should bring to the table
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance. CPA or MBA preferred
  • 7+ years' experience as Controller in a manufacturing, multi-unit retail, hospitality, food or similar industry. Wine industry experience is preferred.
  • Strong people management with the ability to recruit, retain, and develop a talented accounting team
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite, ERP systems, and various technology applications.
  • Results-oriented with a track record of success in accomplishing objectives on schedule and enjoy participating in and leading projects to improve systems and procedures
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stoop, lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
  • Ability to stand; walk; sit; use tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance, kneel; talk or hear.
  • Sufficient digital manipulation skills to utilize a computer keyboard.
