The Controller Hr Manager primarily oversees financial aspects related to HR functions, including budgeting and compliance, while the Payroll Manager focuses on processing employee wages and benefits. Both roles require strong organizational skills and knowledge of HR and finance principles, but they serve different operational areas within an organization.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a controller HR manager, and why are they important?

To excel as a Controller HR Manager, you need a strong background in finance, accounting principles, HR management, and typically a bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or human resources, often with CPA or SHRM certification. Proficiency in HRIS systems, payroll software, and financial management tools like SAP or QuickBooks is essential. Exceptional leadership, analytical thinking, and communication skills help you manage teams and bridge finance with HR functions. These competencies are crucial for ensuring regulatory compliance, efficient operations, and the alignment of financial and human capital strategies within an organization.

What is a controller HR manager?

Controller HR Managers are professionals who oversee both human resources (HR) management and financial control functions within an organization. They typically manage HR policies, recruitment, employee relations, and compliance, while also handling budgeting, financial reporting, and internal controls. This dual role ensures that the organization’s workforce and financial resources are effectively aligned to achieve business goals. Controller HR Managers are especially valuable in smaller companies where combining these responsibilities can lead to greater efficiency and streamlined operations.

How does a controller HR manager typically balance financial oversight with human resources responsibilities on a daily basis?

A Controller HR Manager often divides their time between overseeing financial operations—such as budgeting, reporting, and compliance—and managing HR functions like recruitment, employee relations, and benefits administration. Balancing these responsibilities requires strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks based on organizational needs and deadlines. Collaboration is key, as the role frequently involves working with finance teams to ensure accurate payroll processing and with department heads to address staffing needs or resolve personnel issues. This dual focus helps ensure both fiscal responsibility and a positive workplace culture.

OVERVIEW:

SILTT is scaling rapidly and we are searching for a dynamic and highly motivated Controller to serve as a key strategic partner to executive leadership and oversee the company’s accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, and internal controls.  This role balances "in the weeds" accounting management with high-level financial guidance, forecasting, and the architectural setup required to support a global organization. The ideal candidate is a hands-on manager with strong technical accounting knowledge and the ability to lead, develop, and collaborate across teams.  If you are excited by the opportunity to join our team as a Controller, we encourage you to apply today!
WHO WE ARE:

At SILTT we’re pushing the limits of infrastructure innovation in the Telecommunications and Information Technology industry. From delivering world-class modular data center facilities to all-hours, 365-day operational response and disaster recovery, our multi-functional team of experts are force multipliers across the infrastructure landscape. We pride ourselves in leading from the front to advise, assist, and accompany our clients through their toughest technological and operational challenges. We always deliver results (spelled “re-SILTTs”)!

WHY SILTT?

At SILTT, “objective-driven” means first being “people-driven”. As a small business we know that the ability to achieve our mission demands we take care of our own by providing our team members with a variety of benefits that allow them to live fulfilling, healthy, balanced, meaningful lives. That’s why we believe in offering paid healthcare, ultra-competitive 401K matching, accrued paid time off and fixed holiday leave, continuous learning and professional development incentives, and promote a sustainable work-life balance.
A CALL TO ACTION:

As we charge toward our 300-employee goal, we need a Controller who can not only ensure our accounting is pristine but can also architect our path to international expansion. If you are a builder who thrives on defining financial strategy while mentoring a growing team, we want to hear from you!
A DAY IN THE LIFE:

In this role, you will support and oversee the financial and accounting aspects of all current and future projects.  Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
1. Accounting & Financial Operations:
  • Oversee general ledger, month-end, and year-end close-out processes.
  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of financial statements.
  • Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and reconciliations.
  • Maintain and improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Manage and audit employee expense reports and credit card reconciliations.
2. Financial Reporting & Compliance:
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Develop the financial infrastructure to support international expansion and foreign subsidiary strategy.
  • Coordinate external audits,  cross-border tax compliance, currency risk, and regulatory reporting.
  • Ensure all global operations maintain high standards of internal control as the company scales.
3. Budgeting & Forecasting:
  • Develop and execute long-term financial models and multi-year growth forecasts.
  • Partner with executive leadership to guide capital allocation, investment strategy, and operational scaling.
  • Oversee comprehensive budgeting processes that align with our 3-year strategic growth plan.
  • Analyze variances between actual results and budget/forecast.
4. Leadership & Collaboration:
  • Manage, mentor, and develop a growing finance and accounting team.
  • Partner with operations, HR, and executive leadership on financial initiatives.
  • Support strategic projects, system implementations, and process improvements.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field (MBA/CPA preferred).
  • 10+ years of progressive experience, including time in a senior management or leadership role.
  • 2+ years of people management or team leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in international accounting, foreign subsidiary management, and scaling operations.
  • Deep proficiency with ERP systems and financial modeling/forecasting tools.
  • Ability to bridge the gap between high-level strategic planning and detailed operational execution.
  • Advanced proficiency in Google Sheets.

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:

  • CPA or CMA certification.
  • Public accounting background.
  • Experience with multi-entity, multi-location, or international accounting.
  • Familiarity with financial automation and system implementations.
  • Attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and cross-functional skills.
  • Leadership, coaching, and team development capabilities.
